Revolt!

What would it take for you to take the plunge and get out into the streets?

Revolt, if it is to be successful, must come from the mind; a growing unease and dissatisfaction with things as they are. Revolt may be leaderless, but it cannot be idea-less. Revolt, if one examines the idea, is not a new or unusual thing, merely a reversal of direction. We do it often, sometimes silently, sometimes angrily, but we do it. A choice is seen in greater clarity than before and we merely accept the path which gives us greater benefits, even if it is different from one we chose before. So revolt, to be successful, must present with greater clarity and force of argument the reasons for taking an alternative path to that one now in use, must convince that what one has now is insignificant compared to what one could have, and must present the methods by which this change could be made. It could be said that any society has vested interests in the status quo which could not be unseated by argument. I disagree. For any revolution to succeed, even those interests must be shown to gain, or to lose less by cooperation than they would otherwise. I, as a Progressive Anarchist, want the complete overthrow of present societies, but not now, not immediately, not violently, but gradually and peacefully as ideas gradually seep through one’s mind. The intention of this revolutionary is to assault your mind and destroy your beliefs.

In order for this planet and all species to survive is to shut everything off in a piecemeal style. Returning to nature.

With the world the was it is today, it is clear what we must do...change. Not violently but naturally.

^Bullshit, this type of rhetoric does not advance a global democratic peoples movement. This hate is self destructive an not a means to any ends except perpetual hate.

If you want to destroy american backed dictatorships dont play into the blind religious hatred that America uses as an excuse to dominate your country.

Thank you Lawrence for your eloquent article.

I agree with you...I believe the only way we can move towards a more equitable society is through "the complete overthrow of present societies, but not now, not immediately, not violently, but gradually and peacefully as ideas gradually seep through one’s mind."

I hope those who spoke above about violent revolutions realize, that if we answer institutionalized violence, with violence, religious hate, with hate, systemic racism with racism then we simply exchange one oppressor for another. Violence is not what gained minorities the right to vote, violence is not what ended the caste system in India, violence is not what gave women equal rights. Diplomacy works...it takes longer - but it works. The only child hate has ever produced is the bastard child war...and it reproduces at an alarming rate - and there is one thing you can be sure of when it does...poverty.

I really enjoyed your article. It is time for us to shake our heads, together - to realize that we have choices and venues through which we can express them and mobilize. Collectively, we have the power to exert this choice over the corporate entities and try different experiments in democracy or whatever collective form we choose to manifest. Our choices need not be extreme, but if we all picked three top corporate offenders and each one of us spread the word for boycott of those same three - the viral effect of this, combined with various media picking up the story, would be sufficient to start the wake up call. Imagine toppling top three offenders, it is possible - with reasonable planning and without major sacrifices.
