War Crimes Trials?

Activists attempt to bring charges against the Israeli leadership in the international court system.

Bracing for a onslaught of international lawsuits, Israeli officials responsible for ordering and executing the Gaza offensive are now facing the very real possibility of being arrested and tried for war crimes in the ICC. An activist site launched from within Israel has issued arrest warrants for Tzipi Livni, Ehud Olmert and Ehud Barak and urges anyone who has knowledge of the suspects’ plans for international travel to immediately contact The Hague. The age of Israeli impunity seems to be giving way to a harsh new reality.

JUSTIN123 So the 8 months of blocking all food/aid/fuel shipments into Gaza prior to the attack show what intent to you? Hard to find out about what happened during that time due to the blocking of all journalist by Israel. I suppose you can find a way that blocking journalist was healthy and productive for the citizens of Gaza.

"I think Israel made every effort to kill as many citizens as the international community would allow." -- Well, as I said, the international community has allowed hundreds of thousands of people to be raped and slaughtered in Darfur and Congo. Also, if you look at basically any other campaign of bombing an urban area over a period of 1 month, you will find that casualties were significantly higher. Again, there's no justifying Israel's choice to do what they did, but there is a proper way to define what their oppressive action was, and it clearly was not genocide. The intent behind blockading gaza was to remove Hamas from power. It was a form of unjust collective punishment, very similar to what Russia does in Chechneya, or Zimbabwe to their own people. The difference is just that it was not as severe. These aren't justifiable acts. They are acts of war, and of apartheid. But they are not acts consistent with a policy of extermination. Look, I know it sounds awful for me to say that this oppressive act is "not as bad" as that other oppressive act... ethically that doesn't hold up. I understand that all acts of oppression are equally morally reprehensible. However, we are talking about legal issues here. International law is not a megaphone or a protest march. It has to remain a fact-based institution that is capable of assigning justice based upon the the depth and extent of the crime. Israel is not innocent, but others are simply more guilty. If we are going to be this strict with Israel, then we must be consistent and be 10 times more strict with all other oppressive nations at the same time. This is not about making excuses, this is about making sure that no nation remains above the law.

In answer to your question are only jews evil? I am rather sick of SOME Jewish people blubbering on and on and on and on about the Nazi holocaust whilst condoning another holocaust in Palestine. These pro zionists do not have the monopoly on suffering. Do they ever mention the genocide in Rwanda- rarely. Yes there are other evils occurring in the world but to turn a blind eye to one happening in your front garden (because you sort of feel that it is actually not that undesirable and maybe you might be able to go and have a nice holiday in Israel some time when all the land is Israels ) and then trumpet about another attrocity which is happening further down the road as a distraction is completely evil. We cant deal with all the worlds evils in one go but Israel has committed many evils in its short history and it is way past the time to deal with it. So if you have any morality, stop blubbering and do something now.
