Osama!

Why are people dancing in the streets?

The assassination of Osama Bin Laden is a major historical event that many of us will remember for the rest of our lives, like 9-11 itself. As the world reacts spontaneously, and the public forms its opinion, nearly every mainstream commentator is openly rejoicing his death. Yet there are signs of dissent, a growing feeling that there is something deeper we are prohibited from saying. Here are a few people who are struggling to articulate that unsayable truth.

Chris Hedges:

"The tragedy was that if we had the courage to be vulnerable, if we had built on that empathy, we would be far safer and more secure today than we are .... Empire finally, as Thucydides understood, is a disease. As Thucydides wrote, the tyranny that the Athenian empire imposed on others it finally imposed on itself. The disease of empire, according to Thucydides, would finally kill Athenian democracy. And the disease of empire, the disease of nationalism .... I despair. I despair that we as a country, as Nietzsche understood, have become a monster that we are attempting to fight." Read More

Jeremy Scahill:

"I found it quite disgusting to see people chanting, like it was some sort of sporting event, outside of the White House. I think it was idiotic." Read More

Chris Douglas-Roberts:

A twitter war has erupted over basketball player Douglas-Roberts' skeptical comments about the assassination: "Is this a celebration? Is this the beginning of a huge religious war? It took 919,967 deaths to kill that one guy. It took 10 years and two wars to kill that guy. It cost us (USA) roughly $1,188,263,000,000 to kill that guy. But we #winning though. Haaaa. (Sarcasm)." Now if we could only stop all those brutal murderous, right wing regimes in Latin America, Africa, Indonesia, the Middle East and other third world countries around the world that are opposing social change and killing more than Osama Bin Laden ever did... Oh wait who is supporting all those regimes again??

"His body was buried at sea.." Oh reeealy?
And the stupid American public starts twirling their batons and chanting their frat-boy slogans. The end is indeed nigh.

Bin Laden was made up to serve a purpose and his "death" was just as made up. We all know this whether we are willing to admit it or not. We are being played.

His "death" is being used as some geo-political scheme involving "israel", oil, the dollar, etc. This pageantry is for the punters - those who are too stupid to know what's really going. This inane magic-show is for those who toil in the mines owned by the big banks and weapons industry - to keep them blindly slaving away without protest. The same poor fools who masturbate in their baseball stadiums to the murder of another Arab and who will willingly suck down the latest propaganda churned out by the the very media outlets that Adbusters is opposed to.

What are we fucking 15th century peasants who will believe the latest snake-oil salesmen who rolls through town with the carcass of the "boogieman" in his cart?

Are we really that stupid. In this day and age we still fall for this song and dance? Really? Reeeealy?

Excellent - well... horrific but well put and thank you for saying it, completely forgot to add in my comment below how the whole fucking thing beyond shady as hell and utterly and shamefully ironic. Really invokes a thought process that is necessary for change.

I knew this propoganda was cock and bull from the very onset of Obama's not-so-well orchestrated Sunday night 'speech'. The sad thing is, people do believe it. (even people we might consider intelligent on many levels) They believe unquestioningly, blindly, and with complete credulity. The MSM has taken the place of the church/organized religion. Americans are simply eager zealots just waiting to scarf up any garbage that the propoganda wing of our corporate run government feeds them. To dissent, even on the most logical and common sense grounds is to be met with the tired reply, "You are a conspiracy theorist, eh?". There is really little hope for reason to take hold in the psyche of our dronish population. Let the two minute hate begin brothers, that damned Goldstein is at it again...
