The Occupy #NATGAT

Searching for new tactics and strategies.

Zachary Bell

Occupiers from across the nation are in Philadelphia for the Occupy National Gathering (#NATGAT), several days of workshops and direct actions culminating on July 4th. “I hope we can have some real dialogue about what’s next for Occupy. New tactics and strategies,” says occupier Jeff Rae, who has been active in the movement since September 17 in Zuccotti.

Yesterday Philadelphia occupier Zachary Bell wrote:

Chris Hedges addressed the crowd of Occupiers. Hedges described the state of political America, including the death of the radical class, the “monstrosity of faux liberals like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama,” and the marginalization of structural critique in political discourse. He addressed Occupy’s future, articulating Occupy’s immediate goal “to reverse the corporate coup d’état and put the power back in the hands of people.” Hedges opined that the black bloc”s tactics are destructive because it plays into the hands “of those who want to destroy us” by demonizing Occupy in the mind of the public. But he remained hopeful and urged patience, citing his experience in movements that took time to build: “this is the dress rehearsal for the end of the corporate state.”

For you, everything boils down to military control? How about breathing in and out? What the poster said is pretty self-evident. Please check your assumptions before you open your mouth.

You defend irrelevant crap the way a spoiled and inarticulate child would. America's needs and wants will never be met until it stops murdering innocent people in other countries and not a minute sooner. But, thanks for the insurance industry promo. It was quite transparent. - Karma

60% of this year's US budget is military, 40% everything else.

Now care to tell that poster it's not about military control again?

How about this: before the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the US spent more than the next top 15 countries *combined*. At the height of the wars they were spending more than the next top 130 countries combined. Now they are settling down towards spending more than the next top 25 spender countries combined
(All of whom are already military allies of the US by the way), and the US accounts for 50% of the total world military spending.

Or this: the US military is the largest single purchaser of oil in the world. Since 1991 it has used up about 15% of the entire *finite* world supply of oil, all the oil that is left on our planet, *just in fuel used specifically for fighting its wars*.

Now tell us again it's not about military control.

When a million of us in the West armed with a million rifles march against the Pentagon and its police forces and send them all to hell. And not a minute sooner.

Referencing George Orwell’s book, Nineteen Eighty-Four, this documentary critically investigates the US media, its corporate ownership, as well as political affiliations.

If it's as interesting as it sounds, it will be worth viewing.
