A Nuclear Free Middle East!

Why aren’t they talking about it?

This article is available in:

Here’s the Occupy movements attempt to get some sanity into the Middle East. Read Chris Hedges’ most recent thoughts on #occupyAIPAC and beyond.

The battle for justice in the Middle East is our battle. It is part of the vast, global battle against the 1 percent. It is about living rather than dying. It is about communicating rather than killing. It is about love rather than hate. It is part of the great battle against the corporate forces of death that reign over us—the fossil fuel industry, the weapons manufacturers, the security and surveillance state, the speculators on Wall Street, the oligarchic elites who assault our poor, our working men and women, our children, one in four of whom depend on food stamps to eat, the elites who are destroying our ecosystem with its trees, its air and its water and throwing into doubt our survival as a species.

What is being done in Gaza, the world’s largest open-air prison, is a pale reflection of what is slowly happening to the rest of us. It is a window into the rise of the global security state, our new governing system that the political philosopher Sheldon Wolin calls “inverted totalitarianism.” It is a reflection of a world where the powerful are not bound by law, either on Wall Street or in the shattered remains of the countries we invade and occupy, including Iraq with its hundreds of thousands of dead. And one of the greatest purveyors of this demented ideology of violence for the sake of violence, this flagrant disregard for the rule of domestic and international law, is the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC.

"It is the duty of Israeli leaders to explain to public opinion, clearly and courageously, a certain number of facts that are forgotten with time. The first of these is that there is no Zionism, colonialization or Jewish State without the eviction of the Arabs and the expropriation of their lands."

-Yoram Bar Porath, Yediot Aahronot, of 14 July 1972.

"Between ourselves it must be clear that there is no room for both peoples together in this country. We shall not achieve our goal if the Arabs are in this small country. There is no other way than to transfer the Arabs from here to neighboring countries - all of them. Not one village, not one tribe should be left."

-Joseph Weitz, head of the Jewish Agency's Colonization Department in 1940. From "A Solution to the Refugee Problem" by Joseph Weitz, Davar, September 29, 1967, cited in Uri Davis and Norton Mevinsky, eds., Documents from Israel, 1967-1973, p.21.

"After we become a strong force as the result of the creation of the state, we shall abolish partition and expand to the whole of Palestine. The state will only be a stage in the realization of Zionism and its task is to prepare the ground for our expansion. The state will have to preserve order - not by preaching but with machine guns."
-David Ben-Gurion, 1938.

"There is, however, a difficulty from which the Zionist dares not avert his eyes, though he rarely likes to face it. Palestine proper has already its inhabitants."
-Israel Zangwill, The Voice of Jerusalem, London, 1920, p. 88.

"We must expel Arabs and take their places."
-David Ben Gurion, future Prime Minister of Israel, 1937, Ben Gurion and the Palestine Arabs, Oxford University Press, 1985.

"Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because geography books no longer exist. Not only do the books not exist, the Arab villages are not there either. Nahlal arose in the place of Mahlul; Kibbutz Gvat in the place of Jibta; Kibbutz Sarid in the place of Huneifis; and Kefar Yehushua in the place of Tal al-Shuman. There is not a single place built in this country that did not have a former Arab population."
-Moshe Dayan, address to the Technion, Haifa, reported in Haaretz, April 4, 1969

"There are some who believe that the non-Jewish population, even in a high percentage, within our borders will be more effectively under our surveillance; and there are some who believe the contrary, i.e., that it is easier to carry out surveillance over the activities of a neighbor than over those of a tenant. [I] tend to support the latter view and have an additional argument:...the need to sustain the character of the state which will henceforth be Jewish...with a non-Jewish minority limited to 15 percent. I had already reached this fundamental position as early as 1940 [and] it is entered in my diary."
--Joseph Weitz, head of the Jewish Agency's Colonization Department. From Israel: an Apartheid State by Uri Davis, p.5.

"If I was an Arab leader I would never make [peace] with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country."
-David Ben Gurion, quoted in The Jewish Paradox, by Nahum Goldmann, Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1978, p. 99.

"Everybody has to move, run and grab as many hilltops as they can to enlarge the settlements because everything we take now will stay ours... Everything we don't grab will go to them."
--Ariel Sharon, then Israeli Foreign Minister, addressing a meeting of militants from the extreme right-wing Tsomet Party, Agence France Presse, November 15, 1998.

We abroad are used to believing that Eretz Israel is now almost totally desolate, a desert that is not sowed, and that anyone who wishes to purchase land there may come and purchase as much as he desires. But in truth this is not the case. Throughout the country it is difficult to find fields that are not sowed. Only sand dunes and stony mountains that are not fir to grow anything but fruit trees-and this only after hard labor and great expense of clearing and reclaimation- only these are not cultivated. The Zionists treat the Arabs with hostility and cruelty, deprive them of their rights, offend them without cause, and even boast of these deeds if this is the Messiah, then I do not wish to see his coming.

--Asher Ginsberg (Ahad Ha=am) 1891

"We should prepare to go over to the offensive. Our aim is to smash Lebanon, Trans-Jordan, and Syria. The weak point is Lebanon, for the Moselem regime is artificial and easy for us to undermine. We shall establish a Christian state there, and then we will smash the Arab Legion, eliminate Trans-Jordan; Syria will fall to us. We then bomb and move on and take Port Said, Alexandria and Sinai."
-David Ben-Gurion, May 1948, to the General Staff. From Ben-Gurion, A Biography, by Michael Ben-Zohar, Delacorte, New York 1978.

"Israel should have exploited the repression of the demonstrations in China, when world attention focused on that country, to carry out mass expulsions among the Arabs of the territories."
--Benyamin Netanyahu, then Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister, former Prime Minister of Israel, tells students at Bar Ilan University, From the Israeli journal Hotam, November 24, 1989.

"In our political argument abroad, we minimize Arab opposition to us, but let us not ignore the truth among ourselves, we are the aggressors and they defend themselves."

--Ben Gurion 1938

"What is the difference between the way in which the Jewish people struggles to remain what it is in the midst of a non-Jewish population, and the way the Afrikaners try to stay what they are?"
Henry Katzew, "South Africa: a Country Without Friends", Die Transvaler, quoted by R. Stevens in Zionism, South Africa and Apartheid.

"We must do everything to ensure they [the Palestinian refugees] never do return"
--David Ben-Gurion, in his diary, 18 July 1948, quoted in Michael Bar Zohar's Ben-Gurion: the Armed Prophet, Prentice-Hall, 1967, p. 157.

Well put, but the truth is that Israel is primarily Soviet occupied by sovereigns. It is a Capitalist and Communist nation. In order for any Soviet or sovereign Nation to have a revolution of race, you would have to give them Socialism. They're going to resist and they have the Right to do so. So, who are we to criticize any sovereign nation without clear understanding of what interests they are protecting? In the case of Israel, I think they are mainly trying to keep people away from their nuclear weapons, but the level of human rights violations in the Middle East about religion, including Catholicism, globally, is clearly terrorist motivated. It's not just Israel and Christianity. Many religions try to come down on Christianity first to deny their own race injustices for a shot of greed. What our Activist movement needs to do is grow up and stop being sovereign religious and Conservative Anarchists. The best way to do so is to just accept that freedom is pleasure, not screwing up and killing someone or beating someone up for a cause.

We also need to face reality that sovereign nations have plenty of religious freedoms. Maybe they have too many religious freedoms to persecute people with sexual prejudice also known as sexism. If a women cannot date freely even while married then it probably was a male who said, no. I think anyone who tells you to, "just say no," is probably just insane and going to get in some type of Conservative conflict eventually.

Oh, religion is not Alternative music, it is Contemporary music. I messed up there on that. Oops. I'll fix it.

The Land Of The Free And Open Debate

Giver one nice person asks, "Are you retarded?", should we not start a debate on the kind of person who would use such remarks on-line?

P.S. Even if the form and wording of the question was not up-to-stardard, is not the idea of a NUCLEAR - FREE USA worth considering?
