Battle for the Soul of Occupy

Jump, jump, jump over the dead body of the old left!

Alright you jammers, occupiers and Springtime dreamers,

First they silenced our uprising with a media blackout… then they smashed our encampments with midnight paramilitary raids… and now they’re threatening to neutralize our insurgency with an insidious campaign of donor money and co-optation. This counter-strategy worked to kill off the Tea Party’s outrage and turn it into a puppet of the Republican Party. Will the same happen with Occupy Wall Street? Will our insurgency turn into the Democrats’ Tea Party pet?

It’s up to you to decide if our movement goes the way of Paris ’68, the dust bin of could-have-been-insurrections, or something more daring, more inspiring, something not yet dreamed.

Will you allow Occupy to become a project of the old left, the same cabal of old world thinkers who have blunted the possibility of revolution for decades? Will you allow MoveOn, The Nation and Ben & Jerry to put the brakes on our Spring Offensive and turn our struggle into a “99% Spring” reelection campaign for President Obama?

We are now in a battle for the soul of Occupy… a fight to the finish between the impotent old left and the new vibrant, horizontal left who launched Occupy Wall Street from the bottom-up and who dreams of real democracy and another world.

Whatever you do, don’t allow our revolutionary struggle to fizzle out into another lefty whine and clicktivist campaign like has happened so many times in the past. Let’s Occupy the clicktivists and crash the MoveOn party. Let’s #DEFENDOCCUPY and stop the derailment of our movement that looms ahead.

for the wild,

There is an attempt to co-opt the occupy movement but it will not succeed. The problem, as long as it continues, will organize its opposition all on its own.

Our problem is long term and intensifying while their problem is always short-term (such as getting a party or politician into office, passing a new law etc.) and becoming less and less relevant to people's lives as major institutions continue fail at an ever-increasing rate.

We are actually in a position to co-opt those who would co-opt us. They are bring people to their cause under the guise of being us. We show up and show their recruits that we have the solution and adaptation to institutional demands can't take us to where we need to go. When given the choice between illusion and reality, these recruits will become our recruits, particularly when the correctly perceive that the choice is literally between death and life.

So what you're saying is "we" have to have tangible, clear goals and procedures for them to recognise our obvious superiority?

I like the idea of "Crashing the MoveOn Party" we should "OCCUPY MOVEON" and attend these meetings with a more radical perspective. Create discussion that might not happen if real Occupiers weren't there to begin with. Bring artcles such as...http://crimethinc.com/texts/recentfeatures/violence.php to combat their "nonviolent discourse"

Seriously? This paranoid bullshit from Adbusters? Slamming Code Pink, National People's Action and Ruckus Society, three 99 spring signatories that've done more to decimate corporate power than Adbusters ever will?

100,000 people are gonna train in direct action for the first time, and be desperately looking for a place to put that energy, all two weeks before May Day, at trainings where anyone can suggest a next action - and instead of viewing that as an opportunity to recruit 100,000 general strikers, you decide it's time to aim at should-be allies?

Looks like I'm canceling my subscription. Fuck off.

Yeah, and then they're going to be pulled into this "6 weeks of (in)action" bullshit, and then put to work "making the election a referendum" on tax breaks for the rich. I've read their training materials and I'm on their e-mail list. They're not even hiding their plan.
