OWS GUT CHECK

Three challenges Occupy must overcome.

LUCY NICHOLSON/REUTERS

Hey you nimble dreamers, believers and jammer tacticians out there,

Our movement has reemerged from winter hibernation to find that this spring we are different but so too is the political and tactical situation. Occupy now faces a series of existential challenges that will define the month of May and set the tone for our long-term future.

#1 challenge: Jump over the corporate media

It took the New York Times two weeks last year to wake up to the insurrection percolating in their own backyard. This May Day, we saw an insidious attempt to ignore and discredit us right across the mainstream media. Time to jam the corpo-commercial lie machine and shift the way information flows and meaning is produced. Here is occupier Charles Young’s take on the blackout:

“I know. It’s just a coincidence. Or conspiracy theory. The .01% who rule the United States would never stoop to such stunts to knock Occupy Wall Street off the front page and surround it with mentions of terrorism… But Occupy wasn’t on the Times’ front page, online or in print, either.”

#2 challenge: Block the co-optation of our movement

Last September, the old left didn’t want to touch us. Then Occupy captured the world’s imagination and now they are jumping in to channel our energy into electoral politics and symbolic actions. Founding Zuccotti Marisa Holmes warns that the co-opters are a deep threat to our movement:

“This is an election year. Everything is at stake. There will be many more attempts like The 99% Spring to come. The 1% have no intention of funding a movement that actually poses a threat to their power. They seek to manage social movements via foundations thru resource allocation, top-down structures, and co-opting language. In the past this strategy has proven effective at dividing, conquering, and integrating movements into respectable forms of activism, and it’s starting to take hold… We have realized our collective power, and we must not be pacified!”

#3 challenge: Occupy the future

Our most difficult task of all is to describe, build and sustain the post-capitalist future we want to live in. Here is Slavoj Žižek’s stab to get your juices flowing:

“It is not enough to reject the depoliticized expert rule as the most ruthless form of ideology; one should also begin to think seriously about what to propose instead of the predominant economic organization, to imagine and experiment with alternate forms of organization, to search for the germs of the New. Communism is not just or predominantly the carnival of the mass protest when the system is brought to a halt; Communism is also, above all, a new form of organization, discipline, hard work.”

Hey occupiers: the old world has no future; their leaders have no solutions. Now everything from how we live to how we love and how the world is governed is up for grabs. Can we rise to the challenge? Let the tactical brainstorm begin.

Occupy's chances of survival would be improved if Military attacks on it were countered. Hell it'd be golden for everyone if the Military were shut down and smashed into a thousand pieces.

The Military will take some interest in your uh ... "parallel track" and would probably like to have it as an r&r destination for its anti-Occupy sniper corps. Whatcha gonna do then. Another parallel manuveur? You better
go frontal or else hide yourselves but good.

Rules and laws put in place in the US by ALEC need to be repealed. Over 30 years ALEC may have put 5000 laws inot place. All need to be considered for immediate repeal because in every case the starting assumptions are going to be wrong and anti-democratic and against the average person.

In the US 75% of profits over the last decade have come from wage reductions. So what sense does this talk of tax reduction for the rich make? They essentially don't want to give back money they have stolen. Further than that its come out that roughtly 2 trillion in profit per year or 30% of profit is the result of not factoring in the externality costs.

Its clear that the true cost accounting needs to be done, without allowing appeals to greed and inequity, and that the rich need to pay their fair share of taxes. If a wealthy person is in a rent seeking business vice one that makes a real contribution or in the kind of rent seeking where the contribution is net negative then they need to pay at a very high non negotiable bracket level. Its also time that carbon energy revenues and profits, all of it under a nationalization plan, go into the public treasury. This obviously ends the subsides to oil and its obvious that it woudl be easy to quickly fund a green replacement for carbon energy. Green is not an alternative it is an outright replacment for carbon energy and its time it be talked of in that way. This also works to undermine the corrupting dynasties that have undermined a functional US political environment and put the world at risk.

NATIONALIZE THE FEDERAL RESERVE!

That's a good place to start. In the very least it would allow the US government to print its own currency and Congress would be in control instead of a banking cartel who do not have to answer to the US government.

This is the only thing that will save the planet from rule by inbred incompetent families like the Bushes who have made their money off of war and lying and genocide and their relationship with the IMF. If the true Americans in powerful positions decide to honor their oaths to the people and the Constitution, we will start the New Golden Age.

When the hearts of men grows stronger for their fellowman than greed and power the tides will change and the evil powers of financial elite will be dissolved forever.

Younger readers may not remember

a time when the U.S. Military had the genuine media reported disapproval of the American people. And let me tell you by the time the attempted genocide of the Viet people ground to a halt there wasn't a town in America where a regular armed forces uniform wouldn't get call outs and the like. Well, the animals who make careers out of killing humans became quite concerned that remaining in the Party of the Mad Bomber and his sidekick, Nixon would be a real minus when they tried to go about their bidness in the newly enraged at their recent exploits America. So a mass exodus of their lot went Democratic. Did you ever wonder why the Democratic Party votes and promotes like Nazis now? Well, now you know. By the way, a similar exodus occurred after H-dub's initial introduction of genocide into Iraq occurred. Funny these cowardly animals.

Shunning and shaming would still be the case today if the Military didn't have operational control of most of the media outlets in the world. Instead we're unrelentingly fed fake images of fake heroes and none that show what U.S.troops actually do. But, we see, hear and are sickened by reports of the desecrated corpses, the aerial bombings of wedding parties, the rapes of very young children and the elderly, living and dead. We see their impromptu photo ops posing with ss banners, their sick grins as they hold frightened children orphaned by their cowardly acts, and still some of us do not act or speak out. That must change. Let our words be the preamble to positive actions against these lower animals and let us be clear about it. Peace to everyone but them. Thank you for listening. -Jesus Christ, Gandhi, and Albert Einstein.
