Occupy will be back!

SULAMITH SALLMAN

From Wisconsin to Cairo and Zuccotti to Athens, our global movement is confronting a concerted counter-revolution.

It is easy to lose hope but we can be confident that our uprising will grow bolder, writes Chris Hedges in a passionate new blast, because the underlying sociohistoric and psychoeconomic forces that propelled the people’s insurrection of 2011 are still unresolved… and can only be resolved by our global people’s uprising for real democracy. This is the situation according to Hedges:

In every conflict, insurgency, uprising and revolution I have covered as a foreign correspondent, the power elite used periods of dormancy, lulls and setbacks to write off the opposition. This is why obituaries for the Occupy movement are in vogue. And this is why the next groundswell of popular protest—and there will be one—will be labeled as “unexpected,” a “shock” and a “surprise.” The television pundits and talking heads, the columnists and academics who declare the movement dead are as out of touch with reality now as they were on Sept. 17 when New York City’s Zuccotti Park was occupied…

Our dying corporate class, corrupt, engorged on obscene profits and indifferent to human suffering, is the guarantee that the mass movement will expand and flourish. No one knows when. No one knows how. The future movement may not resemble Occupy. It may not even bear the name Occupy. But it will come. I have seen this before. And we should use this time to prepare, to educate ourselves about the best ways to fight back, to learn from our mistakes, as many Occupiers are doing in New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and other cities. There are dark and turbulent days ahead. There are powerful and frightening forces of hate, backed by corporate money, that will seek to hijack public rage and frustration to create a culture of fear. It is not certain we will win. But it is certain this is not over…

Sorry chris, but OWS has become an institution. Through insane mismanagement and a philosophy that sought to 'create a brand' we have allowed a few profiteers and the old left to seep in and take over the movement. And so many have been willing to allow it, from the housewives of the cyber99 happy to just have something to believe in, something to stand for now that the kids have left home or the divorce is final, to the street urchins who believe that the world needs to be made aware of something that they were the only ones who weren't aware of, the need for activism. They clique up and preach Occu-Pius Uber Alles, allowing no dissent, no criticism, for in their fragile eggshell minds there is no room for doubt, and if 'you aren't with us, you are against' mentalities. From the 'live streamers' who could care less about the movement and instead look for an easy way to turn a profit while sucking donations away from the cause for their coke and technological toy habits, to the 'street rebels' who were living on the streets and in the parks anyway, and found it much easier to march once a week for free food and donations than it was to set up a hat and dumpster dive. The internet groups are filled with these little dictators, stomping out any dissension, and seeking NOT to fix anything, but to perpetuate the fight in order to continue their lifestyle. Then we have the true enemies of OWS, people like Aaron Black in NYC (there is one of these at nearly ever occupy, btw) who takes it upon himself to politic for power, and then assault any who don't 'occupy the right way'.

OWS is dead, and we killed it. But the spirit of OWS, the will to stand against the system, to act up, is still alive in the hearts of the people, and the 'next thing' is just around the corner. We adapt. We persevere. We won't go away. And we will win.

The only way to hurt a person who has nothing left to lose is to give them something back, broken. That is what has been done to us at this point. But we will not be silenced. We may be discouraged, but we will not be dissuaded from our goal of global equality for all humankind. We will not rest just because the OWS brand has become an institution, we will seek other ways to address the issues that face humanity, that face the biosphere we are part of. We will end capitalism and its profits over people philosophy. We will end injustice, and the divisions the machine forces upon us to distract us and set us against one another.

We will fight on. And we will win.

If you want to see where we're headed if we don't make big changes...

Check out the sci-fi graphic novel "UPGRADE" - free for download on Amazon.

It paints a vivid satirical picture of a futuristic society controlled by corporations for the benefit of corporations, yet nobody in that world seems to care. Sound familiar?

Someone once said,

Any coward can fight a battle when he
Is sure of winning,

But give me a man that is plucked to
Fight when he is sure of losing.

All these comments reminded me, I saw a bumper sticker the other day all it said in plain black and white was "Too Late ... Police State."
If can't see it for of your fear of it or your quiet part in it , it doesn't matter . It's a heartless global machine with no respect for your life or this planet. It feeds on fear, hate, and greed... Stop feeding it, if you can.? XOFO
