To Be Or Not To Be

Will this generation hold its leaders accountable?

How fitting that the world’s leaders are gathered in Copenhagen, where they can ask themselves that proverbial Danish question: To be or not to be? A Greenpeace-sponsored campaign unveiled in the city this week presents a stark image of the negation. World leaders who chose not to be – not to be the ones who imposed firm limits on emissions, who initiated clean energy infrastructure, who stopped deforestation – apologize from the future for their failings. But what the campaign doesn’t address is us. Who are we to be? The generation that held its leaders accountable and catalyzed real, systemic change? Or the generation that chose not to be – and took the entire planet down with it.

Obama, Brown, and the rest wont be alive to see the visible benefits from Kyotolike programs (unless they live to 150+). Even by the IPCC's numbers (likely fraudulent) temperature rise is only stalled by 5 years in the next century. They wouldnt even be able to let you know if the plan was working in their life time. These posters make absolutely no sense and are quite offensive. Imagery, and one liner billboards are supposed ot influence us. Please Adbusters, is this what we hold up as example now.

"Just do it" is becomming more and more the likely slogan of the green movement. Its no longer fact, science, or reason that motivates them. Its passion, faith, and politics.

Throwing around words like war, corruption and conquest sounds like an empty ideology and though your feelings are valid, I feel that the issue at hand has so many layers you just can't say "i nominate Adolf Hitler for his humanitarian work." and equate the two of them on the same level. Putting Adolf Hitler and Obama in the same column is short sighted and ignorant. Now that I think of you should join the tea party movement with a statement like that.
