What are the Americans fighting for?
A valid question.

Another thing to note is that American soldiers are never with their kids over there. The taliban often are. That changes things on an emotional level, doesn't it?
If your kids are slaughtered, wouldn't you feel like ending your own life?
How tempting it would be to end your life with a bomb to your chest, so that you might take out some of the people who murdered your family.
