#NOSTARBUCKS

Vow never to walk into a Starbucks ever again.

Vow never to walk into a Starbucks ever again. Instead, search out the most interesting indie coffee shop around where you live and work … get to know the people who own and run the place and get your friends and co-workers to join you there. Individually this may feel like a drop in the bucket, but if all of us do it collectively, then we can begin to shift power from megacorporations to our friends and neighbors.

Tweet #NOSTARBUCKS, Facebook it, email it, whisper it to a friend or shout it from the rooftops. Spread the word and let’s start brewing the mood for a worldwide revolution.

This is stupid... just because you refuse to contribute to one capitalist giant doesn't mean that some grass roots movement is going to occur and the entire populace is going to reject capitalism. It's asinine to say so. the funny thing though is that everyone that says "no" to starbucks probably grocery shops at walmart.

Instead of trying to be hipster like and say "DOWN WITH STARBUCKS" maybe the "progressive anti-capitalists" can organize something that will actually have an effect on the world around us.

This is precisely how it starts bucko. A small group of people start something and then either it spreads or it doesn't. Or it slowly spreads when critical mass is reached.
Apparently you'd rather get on your knees and suck down some more Starshmucks than join in a cause that might bring about some awareness and change. That's cool and all. Sometimes you have to choose and you clearly care about other things. I guess you don't know much about how boycotts work and why they have been used throughout history. You probably haven't traveled much either or you'd likely have a better idea of how pernicious late stage capitalism is on the poorer countries of the world.
Enjoy that frapp all over your face and have fun mincing about with your Josh Groban CDs while the rest of the world lies in rubble for your caffeine habit.

" small group of people start something and then either it spreads or it doesn't."

That IS capitalism! And there is nothing wrong with that. Freedom to choose!

"while the rest of the world lies in rubble for your caffeine habit."

How does him buying a coffee lead to the rest of the world lying in rubble?

How does capitalism destroy the world? Well the theory relies on inequity as you know. Which is as you know inherently flawed if we mean anything by common humanity and all people are created equal and so on and so on.
It also relies on finite resources which can only result in failure in a world that struggles to support 7 billion people who all want to be treated with dignity and respect.
If you're such a fan of capitalism why have any government controls at all? why not just let capitalism sort it all out? The person with the most money can (however they got that money) rule the entire world. How bout that? No more wars. No more whining about justice. Just let one giant mega corporation rule the world. Isn't that the inevitable conclusion of unfettered capitalism?
We can go back to having slaves. Child labor. Police state, etc.
American capitalism is really just socialism for the rich. Pure capitalism would dispense of things like this internet and your ability to to pontificate about this subject because it wouldn't be in the interest of the owner of the internet to have it's slaves think so much.
