For some people finding a partner in life can be difficult... 10 years ago, a small factory in California began making alternative partners.

Can you fall in love with someone you don't know? If so how much do you have to know someone to justify how much you love them? If you love someone you don't know, then what is it that you love? The idea? The illusion? The dream? Would that make them easily replaceable? If so, by what? By a real person, by a dream? By a doll? Well, I don't know. What about what happens when you fall in love with someone? You have a desire to know more about them, every little quirk becomes a mystery. What if they don't want to share themselves with you? How do you fill in the gaps? How do you come up with a story from all the little pieces that you have? I imagine a doll will significantly increase the quality of my life along a lot of dimensions. A doll is what I make it. I build the story, the character and all the love that I want to live. After all, love is only what we decided we feel. If I love a doll, I will never have to force "new facts" into my conception of what is happening. In fact, with a doll, I know where reality starts and where it ends. With my ex-boyfriend, I never knew. I still don't know. What was that song about? Was it about us? Or was it about you and every other girl?! Yes, there is a lot of fish in the sea. But right now, I am in the desert and a mirage is what keeps me going.

Confidence has to be learned. Maybe a dating service could have the patience to work with Extremely shy people, but there are internet groups and blogs. I think a person could have a fantasy relationship and as long as they are speaking to real humans it could be fine. I think it's quite a strange way to live a life, but to each their own.

It was thoughtful how the piece showed us a variety of cases of these real dolls and how men interact with them. From Mike's dolls for pure sexual gratification, Davecat's need to fill an emotional void for love, to the doll makers and doll repair guy. I was honestly disgusted at the forefront, but i thought it was well done and it proved to be a very interesting documentary overall. I wonder what countries this got aired in.
