G20 - Police Agents Provocateurs?

Did the police place black bloc agents provocateurs at the G20? Did they incite violence in order to justify the enormous $1 billion security budget, the infringement of human rights and delegitimize the actual protesters?

Black Bloc = Anarchists with leaders ... police leaders.

Follow them with signs that say "Police Agitator" and and an arrow pointing.

Have fun getting in all the premium media "money-shots" with signs that expose the Black Bloc as police agents.

Why are you spreading this crap?

You're silencing hundreds of people from the black bloc who are on your side. As an anarchist, I feel scared and disgusted by the willingness of others in our broad movements to label us as police provacateurs.

The cops WANT you to spread this shit. You're buying into their dialogue. The issue should be that $1 billion for security is ridiculous no matter what! The issue should be that human lives matter more than windows and cop cars! Why are you sewing the seeds of fragmentation for the cops?? Please stop this!

It's a good case here to be made for responsible activist ethics. I know that the level of frustration can be such that non-violence - including non-violence against property - can be trying to our patience, but violence of any kind almost invariably ends up harming whatever cause we purport to be struggling for. Being an activist is HARD WORK and it requires DISCIPLINE. I'm going to recommend a tired old book that just happens to make sense for any activists, aspiring or veteran. Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" is good useful common-sense advice for people who want to change the world effectively without being labelled as agent-provocateurs.

Nick from Athen...

I am writing from Athens ,Greece,

I am sure you are well aware of our situation here in Greece and i would like to contribute my thoughts to the discussion.

Do the police use undercover agents?
YES , sometimes they use.
Are all the people in a blackblock agents of the state?
By any stretch of the imagination NO.

Its good to do our reality check about the "intelligence" of the state. But its no useful to overestimate the ability of the various agencies like the police. They do not have godhood abilities you know. They would like and they trying to convince the people they do. But they don't.
And of course its no good to underestimate the power of the state.

I think in this case you are overestimate the power of the state.
1 billion dollars for security is just that. Good business for constructors. It doesn't necessary mean good planing by the police about crowd control.
I can understand that the levels of repression in the US are unmatched and that causes people to feel "defeated" but that does not mean that the police can not caught with their pants down.
As a bureaucratized agency that cares out the scientific appliance of state violence into the society, police can be dumb. And i mean REALLY dumb.

Talking about "agents" is as destructible as talking about who's strategy is "better".
By stretching that "logic" someone can assume, all that happened in Greece in December 2008, was carried out by "agents", cause the police seamed to have let in some cases the riots happen. But actually this kind of thinking is what the far-right in Greece was adopting. Be aware. To think all the time about secret agents and plots and all that stuff is actually right-wing thinking.
I hope my English are well enough. My greetings to everyone in the states.
I understand that times are always difficult in the States but the State can be dumb. Bureaucracy..and they really sometimes fear us...think..

hasta siempre !!

yahoos...that's what they were...took away from the peaceful protesters. hooligans. thugs. idiots. probably unemployed welfare bums too. uneducated - next time use spell check fool. and get a job so my taxes don't go to pay your welfare. thank goodness I live in an area with a low minimum wage...keeps the malcontents for the most part in Ontario where they belong. now if we could just get off this social housing kick too. maybe I should become homeless and get a subsidized place to stay. then I wouldn't have to work. then I could use my welfare money to go travel to international events and light police cars on fire. oh what fun. juvenile delinquents! your parents must be proud. you do have parents right?
