A new political era

Chris Hedges is absolutely right; there is no way in the political system of the US for the voice of the people to be heard. Either you get the approval stamp from the rich and the corporations - or you'll not be able to raise the cash necessary to run an election campaign and spread your message. (The hidden meaning behind the political message is always: America is the greatest nation on earth, so give us the freedom and power to loot the poor.)
If there is to be any hope for the new democratic peoples' movements of 2011 to create Real Change for the future, OWS and other groups need to establish almost cost free methods to get their voices heard and their representatives elected. This means using the internet and websites like adbusters.org to spread the message, but it also depends on establishing a new political party which can break up the obviously flawed and corrupt two-party-system. If a new political party (let's call it the American Labor Party) can operate effectively without having to raise huge cash donations, this new party can hopefully exist free from corporate influence and base its policies on principles of Equal opportunities and Justice for all. Stop the companies from moving all the jobs to rogue nations where they exploit the poor. Raise the taxes on the rich and the corporations. Set up a tax on international business transactions and short-term financial round-trip excursions into other currencies (Tobin tax) and place a tax on pollution (the polluter should have to pay the real cost of doing their business).

Kleptocracy - t...

The political cleptocracy in the US became apparent under the abysmal rule of George W. Bush.
Kleptocracy, alternatively cleptocracy or kleptarchy, (from Ancient Greek: κλέπτης (thief) and κράτος (rule), "rule by thieves") is a form of political and government corruption where the government exists to increase the personal wealth and political power of its officials and the ruling class at the expense of the wider population, often without pretense of honest service. This type of government corruption is often achieved by the embezzlement of state funds.

Bush emptied the state coffers by paying back the taxes to the rich. Bush then put the US in huge debt by going to war on Iraq and Afghanistan so that Halliburton, Oil&Gas and the war industry could earn record profits. Those were crimes of epic proportions.

Irony

This guy Chris Hedges is a classic example of a crazy conspiracy theorist. What's really amusing though, about this video, is that he's screaming about how the evil corporations allegedly use their news networks to spew propaganda, but he's doing it on RT, a network 100% owned by the Russian government, that bastion of people-power loving democracy. Hedges is holding up a proud tradition of far-left whackos serving Moscow propaganda masters.

Exactly correct. This dude is a nut, and because this cause is putting someone like this at the forefront it is doomed to fail.

It seems to me as though the only people out there dooming it to fail are people like you talking about how it is doomed to fail. Chris Hedges has seen/been through a lot in his lifetime as a journalist. I certainly respect his opinion more than I do some Anonymous posters on the internet.
