Tactical Briefing #5

Our goal is to catalyze a sudden unexpected moment of truth from which the corporate/consumerist forces never fully recover.

Dear jammers, creatives, anarchists & revolutionaries,

As the days of Carnivalesque Rebellion draw near, a debate is emerging amongst our movement. On one side are those whose plans involve a raucous week of stopping traffic, letting off stink bombs and blackspotting billboards. Their argument is that only a festival of the most visceral kind of civil disobedience will shake consumerism to its core. Others, equally passionate and dedicated souls, say that the old lefty tricks of confrontation and escalation don't work any more. They urge a nuanced, slow revolution: a long-term meme war aimed at changing people's spirits and minds.

It strikes us that this is the same personal dilemma that each of us struggle with: deep down in our guts we know that the world demands a radical transformation of the global system. And yet, it seems impossible, perhaps even foolhardy, to topple consumerism and corporate capitalism by confronting it head on. Is there a way out of this impasse? What should we do this November?

Well as November is the time when the consumer fest season that is xmas ramps up into full over production, that would seem to be a ready target?

This is all good ideas. Young minds realise the thruth that's going on these days..
I love watching how this page promotes as well as informs us in so many different areas;
I'm mexican and here in Mexico we live this corporation effects even deeper, we know what's wrong, what could we do, but pages like adbusters.org should expand in foreign languages, after all, we're all together in this mental global change we want to achieve.

its been proved that capitalism isnt hard to take down in a subtle way...

if only it could be backed up by tons of people, we can make prudence and modesty a powerful force...

in the meantime, one cannot be entirely free of the system, without converting to a hopeless hermit, or else a rabbid renegade...

i for one just try to make the best of this age of decadence, trying not to be consumed by things.

i agree that we need to make a little noise this november. the sad fact is that our society isnt even going to register a rebellion unless its able to cut through the haze of sex drugs and explosions that we get thrown at us every second of every day. each individual act doesnt have to be a mind blowing performance but a million smaller acts of defiance (especially the ones that cost corporations cash) will get the response we want.

If there is a chance, then it`s reformation not revolution. People love to live their life in peace (at least those who can). We need to find broad acceptance in our own population for the sake of change.

The problem is, misery is relative. Many live in misery, while those who profit from it, don´t realize their impact on everyone else. Our culture would change, if we ourselves would be honest enough to spread our ideas to even the short minded. What we have today is not a problem of mercy or charity (many people donate to a greater good), it is a problem of communication and understanding. Understanding of the greater good (if there is one.. and if it could be just, fair, freedom supporting, make the world more equal with being blind for all its inherent inequality, and everything else..)

We have to make clear, what the relevant problems are. We have to tell everyone, that there is a need to change. If an idea becomes popular enough, then there will be someone who puts it on his political agenda - if only to get votes.

We fought hundreds of years for democracy. Now is the time to use it against its own basis.
