Which Way Is America Heading?

Same old shit or crazy new shit?
Same Old Shit or Crazy New Shit

Audio version read by George Atherton – Right-click to download

At this historic moment, as climate-change-induced resource wars appear imminent and spontaneous revolutionary fervor is erupting around the world, it would be good for the people of America, and those who want to be America, to do a bit of soul searching. It would be wise to take this opportunity to ask some fundamental questions about US foreign policy which are continually ignored. Why do we maintain an all-but-irreversible worldwide system of over 1,000 military bases, stations and outposts? Why do our troops serve on the soil of 175 of the 192 member states of the United Nations? And why, at a time when our national debt is spiraling ominously out of control, are we spending more on our military than all the rest of the nations of the world combined?

Of course, the deeper psychological question at the heart of all this is: What are we so afraid of? Why are we trying so hard to control everything? Why can’t we relax and be less fearful of the other? And then, finally, there is this inspiring and uplifting question to ponder: Can we rediscover our ideals as a nation and learn once again how to cast that magical soft-power spell which so enthralled most of humanity in the decades after World War II?

Or is it too late now?

To me, values are just a question of what kind of world do we want to live in? I don't want to live in a world where I contribute towards its destruction.

Kindness is even more important the less it is deserved.

I believe we must focus on nation-building if we are to remain overseas in any capacity. To that point, we must start at home. You can't give away what you don't have - right now, we have a less-than-pluralistic democratic republic and a more-than-broke transnational capitalist economy. I would like to see a populist movement arise that call for accountability both at home and overseas. It must come from the people.

There is a new paradigm for a new millennium that is a middle path between socialism and capitalism. There are many signs of this emerging system but it is in a race with the collapse of the global economy. Its foundation is more co-operation and less competition, and the disempowerment of the military-industrial complex is the first step, as impossible as that seems to many or most.

I think the good news is that we are heading towards crazy new shit. It will be a cocktail of elements. For one, there is going to be crazy advances in medical field once Watson gets his hands on that shit(presuming there aren't already great leaps in the medical field which have not been publicaly disclosed). All those conflicts wonderfully cateloged in Adbusters are due for a metldown any day now. Also, I think culturally the world, perhaps even America specifically, is heading towards a kind renaissance, which may be manifested in the idea of the generally shallow mainstream being infused with the subversive underground, fueled by the magnificentally insane state of the world. Its gonna be crazy
