The Birth of a Nation

Palestine's bid for statehood.

This week Palestinians are moving beyond the Israel- and US-dominated peace process and appealing directly to the world. They are asking the United Nations to formally recognize Palestine as an independent, sovereign state within its 1967 borders.

There is a profound symbolic significance to this move.

It was with a vote in the General Assembly in November 1947 that the state of Israel first achieved recognition through a resolution calling for mutually occupied land to be divided into two states. Israel and most of the nations of the world have long viewed that vote as the source of Israel’s legitimacy as a nation.

If the United Nations General Assembly created the state of Israel sixty years ago, it can create a Palestinian state now.

A bold stroke of poetic justice like that could breathe new life into the whole region and beyond.

Has anyone bothered to read their history at all...the Jews have an actual claim to the land, it is their ancestral home and at the time they began the first Aliyah (1882) there was little to no one living there.

The so called Palestinians don't exist, they are Arabs who migrated to the land in 1930s - 1940s under the encouragement of British authorities.

The bloody Arabs admit as much, the whole concept is a political ploy. It is only because the Arabs refuse to recognize the right of Israel to exist and won't turn loose their dream of chasing all Jews into the sea.

All you have to do is read some of the most recent statements made by Arab leadership

And even if you site the 1947 UN resolution justifying the existence of a Palestinian state I ask this?

Why have the Arabs spent the last 64 YEARS trying to wipe out Israel only to fail each and every time, instead of attempting to actually establish their own homeland? Anyone care to answer that, didn't think so.

The level of ignorance is so overwhelming here that I must leave before I am crushed by it.
