The Birth of a Nation

Palestine's bid for statehood.

This week Palestinians are moving beyond the Israel- and US-dominated peace process and appealing directly to the world. They are asking the United Nations to formally recognize Palestine as an independent, sovereign state within its 1967 borders.

There is a profound symbolic significance to this move.

It was with a vote in the General Assembly in November 1947 that the state of Israel first achieved recognition through a resolution calling for mutually occupied land to be divided into two states. Israel and most of the nations of the world have long viewed that vote as the source of Israel’s legitimacy as a nation.

If the United Nations General Assembly created the state of Israel sixty years ago, it can create a Palestinian state now.

A bold stroke of poetic justice like that could breathe new life into the whole region and beyond.

thank you...
Those others can pick apart what you have written and call you names like Anti-Semetic... but it is time they look in the mirror.
Wall in Gaza... Wall in Poland... aren't you defenders of Israel even remotely embarrassed about this? What about the crops, generations, and homes razed... the people kept in poverty, childred killed? Look in the mirror Let's be real Israel's real message "please just die already" .... The world is watching you.... I am watching you... and finally the US is rethinking it's unlateral support.. We are tired of paying for Israel's folly. It isn't going to last much longer. For all you frothing at the mouth and atttacking the writer of this piece and of this commet... I encourage you to get real with your own colonialism, and racist agenda... History will not side with you on this one. There is no "chosen people", your neighbors, your enemies and you are one.

Not to nit pick or anything, but, "The Birth of A Nation" is a famous film about the Ku Klux Klan by Cecil B. DeMille. I love Adbusters, but ...maybe think about headlines and how they refer to culture and vett them for any possible unintended meanings. I am sure if someone wrote a headline "Gone With the Wind" or "A Few Good Men" or "The Empire Strikes Back" it would be expected the article would relate to the headline in some way.

In this instance there does not to be any connection to the story of the formation of the Ku Klux Klan at the end of the American Civil War - and your article "The Birth of a Nation
Palestine's bid for statehood. " definitely mentions not a word about the Klan.

Oooops. My mistake. I had the director wrong - it was actually D. W. Griffith - it is the #1 result when you Google "The Birth of A Nation."
