Regime Change in America
A constant chorus of calls for regime change in Iran, Syria, Venezuela and North Korea weaves its way through American political dialogue. Yet in the past few years it has become obvious to anyone living outside the Washington beltway that the most sweeping mother of all regime changes needs to happen in America itself.
The country’s great experiment in freedom and democracy has run aground. Dollars have long trumped ideals and the halls of Congress are rife with corruption. The system of checks and balances has been compromised by corporate lobbyists who must scrutinize and vet every piece of major legislation before it can be voted into law. On the surface, things seem fine: Spectacular election campaigns reignite hope and usher in change; passionate debates unfold every day on CNN and FOX; and millions of people seem politically energized, launching cyber campaigns 24/7. In many ways, America’s two-party system seems to be thriving, offering substantive philosophical and policy choices. Yet teeming just beneath the surface is the truth:
Big Banks, Big Oil, Big Pharma and Big Food have the power … And every congressman and senator must feed at the corporate trough.
Only the rise of a mythical “third party” can save America now. The Tea Party movement is a promising start, but it must find a counterpoint – the birth of a radical Coffee Party movement on the left. Then America will be poised on the brink of an historic political power shift. As the planet heats up and our global systems approach their terminal tipping point, people in each movement will wake up to the fact that, in essence, they are both dreaming the same dream, fighting the same fight. Opposing views will synthesize into one powerful voice, one unified movement screaming for radical freedom, radical democracy and a future we can all believe in. Once this synthesis kicks in – maybe as soon as 2013 – we’ll see the first rumblings of true regime change in America.

The Tea Party is made up of right wing conservatives who are all of Anglo-Saxon descent (look at the picture, there is not much multiculturalism there). I would hardly consider the Tea Party a promising alternative to the system currently in place in America

Yes. Racist, ignorant, belligerent groups of solely caucasians is a promising start! Do you all at Adbusters do ANY research before writing your articles, including them in your magazine? If you did, you'd realize that the Tea Party movement is a ploy to get REPUBLICANS to move further to the right. The groups are made up of republicans and that's who they serve.
I'm all for multiple parties in US politics but this isn't it. Nor is it representative of a move towards multiple parties. If McCain were elected, who also voted for the bailout and Bush's massive spending and budget defecits, you would never have seen the Tea Party movement. They are purely motivated by racism and distrust of an African American running the economy. That's not to excuse Obama of his faults (huge budget defecits, offshore drilling expansion, etc.)

Matthew, have you done any research at all? Or are you just another passionate clone serving the elite without getting paid? Anyone who labels a group of people as 'racist', must have some evidence, or they simply look like a fool.
The Tea Party movement was not ONLY made up of Caucasians, so it seems your research has been fairly unsuccessful. Furthermore, they united to peacefully protest against the policies of a leader who they didn't trust. That is something remarkable for such an apathetic generation to do and the writer of this article has every right to praise them for their efforts. Maybe some of them are racist, but what evidence do you have other than that many of them are Caucasian? Maybe you are the racist and that is why you are assuming all Caucasians are racist.
McCain was a pathetic alternative, but Obama has proved to be a weak and easily influenced leader. His rhetorical strength has been easily exploited by the war-mongering elites who ensured his victory. People were able to package him as the next JFK because he is Black, but let's face it, JFK was killed because he was REALLY what Obama has only been made out to be. JFK tried to tighten the grip on the elites and their financial systems and he died for it. Obama, on the other hand, has targetted the middle-class as his scapegoats and left the elite to continue their rampant corruption at unprecedented rates.
Do you really believe Obama runs the economy? If he actually did anything to even attempt to defy the elites he would be dead in hours. The reality is that he is the most obedient 'president' that America has ever seen.
