Occupy Theory
“Marx said that revolutions are the locomotive of world history. But perhaps things are very different. It may be that revolutions are the act by which the human race traveling in the train applies the emergency brake.” Walter Benjamin’s words perfectly fit what occurred around the globe in 2011 and in many places before this, and much further south, from Chiapas and Oaxaca Mexico to Argentina. Our movements are the shouting of “No!” The “Ya Basta!” The “Que Se Vayan Todos!” They are our collective refusal to remain passive in an untenable situation. And so we pull the emergency brake, freeze time and begin to open up and create something new. We are not even sure what that something is. We know we want to create open space. What that looks like we are discovering together, as we create, which is also how we create: together, horizontally and with affect. What we are doing and how we are doing it are inextricably linked, and both are part of this prefigurative movement.

Ill bet if I had gone to an occupy protest (I didn't I have a job) they wouldn't be very inclusive. Why is it all white middle class liberals. Was there an Asian at any protest in North America? I imagine they were too busy working too.

This is about Occupy Mainstreet, and you can take part in it no matter where you are.
We have been taught not to tell people how much we make. this leads to income inequality, when one person doesn't know the other in the same job makes 3x as much.
but there's a way to stop this. We just launched Occupy Payroll.
Check out http://occupypayroll.com
If you have a job, or have had a job, you can anonymously add how much you made, what your job title was, and who your employer was.
This way, we can contribute to greater knowledge about wages, and income equality for all of us.
Let's stop making it taboo to talk about our wages, and how to improve them.
Go to http://Occupypayroll.com and put in the last 2 jobs you've had.

Adbusters is fabulous... but leadership is needed, choices need to made, priorities agreed and a direction chosen... only by embracing the complexity of the situation can alternatives become rivals for leadership... as an African fan of Adbusters for decades (ok no subscription, $ are expensive here) before we really got the internet, I am not brainwashed by the site (see comment above) but moved and inspired that there are good people like this all over the world who care and think and act... success or failure of culture jamming is not in our hands, but AdB stands as witness to the injustices of the world... in short, oppression is not a sustainable strategy... So occupy theory (deductivem inductive, abductive) - there is nothing as practical as theory....

Why do you take such a violent approach, love? I agree with her. Not that a single leader needs to be put in place for all you anarchists out there, but whether you like it or not, the real truth is the Occupy movement is going no where in terms of a revolution like that of Egypt's. Perhaps it does not need a leader, but it is lacking a sense of direction. And until those in power are told of our firm demands, to them, sorry to say it - the "revolution" is invisible. To them, it is a joke.

You're the first to mention violence. Hypocrite shill.
