What is a Revolution?
JIM KIERNAN

This article is available in:

“Marx said that revolutions are the locomotive of world history. But perhaps things are very different. It may be that revolutions are the act by which the human race traveling in the train applies the emergency brake.” Walter Benjamin’s words perfectly fit what occurred around the globe in 2011 and in many places before this, and much further south, from Chiapas and Oaxaca Mexico to Argentina. Our movements are the shouting of “No!” The “Ya Basta!” The “Que Se Vayan Todos!” They are our collective refusal to remain passive in an untenable situation. And so we pull the emergency brake, freeze time and begin to open up and create something new. We are not even sure what that something is. We know we want to create open space. What that looks like we are discovering together, as we create, which is also how we create: together, horizontally and with affect. What we are doing and how we are doing it are inextricably linked, and both are part of this prefigurative movement.

Have never known the rat-race, live well, work when I want to, make some good money. Don't need a revelution, or unions, or big government. Working hard can make a difference in your life, don't need a government hand out.

Well good for you! But you must be aware of the Rate-Race? Aware that million of people do not live well, do not have any work and don't make any money? Many people don't have a union to protect them from the impact of the "Free Market". Given that big business exported many jobs, many people need a government help. Working hard can make a difference - but only to a point. By the way, what is your job?

There's nothing "normal" about you. What kind of "pathetic" individual trolls sites where they don't agree with the content, writing inane comments only to seek negative attention? Only a "sad", "mad" man filled with "anger" would do that.

An I interfering with your "safe zone" that is what you lefties call it, an area where no one challenges your opinion. Like when the shouting masses get a conservative speaker cancelled at a university. Safe zone

Not at all. This what the internet is for. To allow discourse and the exchange of information. If someone does not agree with you he/she is not a "troll." The post was just as legitimate as any other one here. That is democracy. You have officially been schooled now.

There won't be a revolution because the brainwashing and manipulations and distractions are too pervasive. The Right is totally isolated as well as the left. Corporate globalization already won. The Right joined them, so they are already gone. The Left is just too soft to mean anything. The Left would have to become cops, politicians, media empire moguls and CEO's and Military Generals. Only right wingers respect that pyramid dictatorial way of organization. The lefthas no respect for power and authority, so they can't co-opt as well as conservatives. It's fate. When they hatched the plan to use corporations to take over, they played conservatives right into the scheme. It is fxckin useless to try and get the right into revolting, they are harmless screamers in the face of power.
