Hey you redeemers, rebels and radicals out there,
Against the backdrop of a global uprising that is simmering in dozens of countries and thousands of cities and towns, the G8 and NATO will hold a rare simultaneous summit in Chicago this May. The world’s military and political elites, heads of state, 7,500 officials from 80 nations, and more than 2,500 journalists will be there.
And so will we.
On May 1, 50,000 people from all over the world will flock to Chicago, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and #OCCUPYCHICAGO for a month. With a bit of luck, we’ll pull off the biggest multinational occupation of a summit meeting the world has ever seen.
And this time around we’re not going to put up with the kind of police repression that happened during the Democratic National Convention protests in Chicago, 1968 … nor will we abide by any phony restrictions the City of Chicago may want to impose on our first amendment rights. We’ll go there with our heads held high and assemble for a month-long people’s summit … we’ll march and chant and sing and shout and exercise our right to tell our elected representatives what we want … the constitution will be our guide.
And when the G8 and NATO meet behind closed doors on May 19, we’ll be ready with our demands: a Robin Hood Tax … a ban on high frequency ‘flash’ trading … a binding climate change accord … a three strikes and you’re out law for corporate criminals … an all out initiative for a nuclear-free Middle East … whatever we decide in our general assemblies and in our global internet brainstorm – we the people will set the agenda for the next few years and demand our leaders carry it out.
And if they don’t listen … if they ignore us and put our demands on the back burner like they’ve done so many times before … then, with Gandhian ferocity, we’ll flashmob the streets, shut down stock exchanges, campuses, corporate headquarters and cities across the globe … we’ll make the price of doing business as usual too much to bear.
Jammers, pack your tents, muster up your courage and prepare for a big bang in Chicago this Spring. If we don’t stand up now and fight now for a different kind of future we may not have much of a future … so let’s live without dead time for a month in May and see what happens …

"It's important to put the response from a Chicago “Occupy” is not owned by anyone. I want to start out by saying that. But my problem is that a strong organization known as Occupy Chicago already exists. It has a functioning GA, planned actions, and allies all over Chicago. By AdBusters failing to contact us, it was a lack of respect for the months of work we had put into this movement. And by failing to contact us, it shows they have little to no understanding of the Chicago Police Department.
Occupy Chicago had passed a proposal that called for perpetual events and actions in Chicago beginning on April 7, 2011 known as “Chicago Spring”. May 1 had an event, and AdBuster’s call has serious shortfalls in understanding the culture of Chicago. May Day (May 1) is historically a day about immigrant rights. Sure, it’s had a worker’s rights flavor splashed in, but not sufficient enough to justify co-opting their day. Occupy Chicago does not want to silence our brothers and sisters we share a struggle with by attempting to overpower their voice. (fyi – May Day in Chicago has yielded close to 500,000 people).
The picture is of the 1968 Democratic National Convention police riots in Chicago. You may as well be asking upfront for it. AdBusters must know that Chicago has had close to 300 arrests related to attempts at encampment, that must be why they called for “peaceful barricades”. If you want to pick a fight with CPD, you should consult those whose name you are using. Occupy Police had this to say: “while global solidarity is important, it’s better to let a community deal with community issues, especially when it comes to things like police/community relations which as this picture depicts, are not good.”
So if you are going to make a decision like that talk to us first...Occupy the Dream, a coalition of several activist groups in the Southside of IIRON, Chicago including Trinity Church Community Center, SOUL Chicago, Occupy Chicago, Liberate the Southside, Occupy our Homes, Northside P.O.W.E.R., and the Northwest Indiana Federation have worked tirelessly to host major actions across the city...There are even more: Occupy Logan Square, Occupy the South Side, Occupy the Hood...Work with us… Not against us. We know Chicago, far better than you. Work with us so you can learn from our experiences of being activists in the Windy City. And remember, you are talking about our home… treat it with respect in all your decisions."

The post misunderstands May Day - in recent years it has a day of immigrant rights protests, but it started as a workers right. Despite this error, the rest of it is dead on.

This is a Compassionate and Informed Response. We all want Knowledge and Justice. We all know that change is possible.
Basically Adbusters is asking OccupyChicago to be it's "Employee" : ie : Adbusters gives OccupyChicago Money/Supplies and then Tells OccupyChicago what to do. Sounds like the exact corporate structure that the origins of Occupy were trying to expose. (16 Beaver St . Bloombergville . Chomsky)

Sadly, no necessary changes are going to take place in U.S. Politics, such as law prohibiting big corporate money being used in election campaigns; and U.S. Tax Code reform that eliminates the big corporations and millionaires not paying their fair proportionate share of taxes; and having our government issuing our own currency that is backed by precious metals, i.e., gold, silver. That currency would be interest free unlike the money printed by the elite Bankers who own and operate the so-called Federal Reserve Bank, that lends us the money at interest. Interest rates they control, to add insult to injury. The necessary changes our government now needs will not happen until blood is shed. A lot of it unfortunately.
The Occupy Movement is a noble cause for true patriots and a good starting point. However, the elites do not and will not abide by the spirit of the U.S. Constitution.
The goon squads you see on display, in military-style regalia, are not there to uphold The Constitution. They are there to protect the assets, and lifestyle of the elite one per cent (1%). What’s ironic, the protesting patriots are the ones who indirectly are paying the inflated salaries of the goon squads used to oppress them.
The situation is simplistic as that. Look at the obvious. It is in plain view. What is more, these same few elite families advocate and cause the situations that start wars. Why? Because they are controlling and creating currency and loaning it, at interest, to each side of the warring governments to finance the monetary cost of war. Every major war has been financed that way since “The War of 1812”. War is a fantastic money making enterprise if you are among the elite one per cent of the population! Even some of their lackeys stand to get big money. Many of the lackeys I speak of are your governmental officials. Most of those elected, and all who are appointed to important offices are controlled by the elite families. If a governmental official holding an important office does not do as directed that one will be eliminated. By any means, including assassination.

I am not trying to promote my blog here. I'm not fuckin trying to discourage awareness to NATO G8 on MAY 15-19. And, fuckin hell, I am not coming to YOUR city to fuck it up.
By all means come on by and march in the name of PEACE. Crash on someone's couch like a normal person. Get your ass out of bed and go to your solidarity party. Then meet up at a bar or your buddies apartment or that place in China Town and talk it out. But good fucking luck camping out because it's not the Police you will have to worry about. 2.7 Million Citizens who have loved this City for YEARS longer than your 6 month old movement.
You'll have 7,000 Chicago Homeless on your hand that will come to your camp and you'll have to take care of them. They aren't into your anarchy and violence or protesting. The Homeless want food and conversation and honest work. That's it!
So do NOT bring violence or that "green army" shit to my fucking city!

We are always peaceful. We will remain peaceful. Most of us idolize Mahatma Ghandi. This movement is not about fucking shit up, or giving the police a bad day. This movement is about educating others and ourselves. This is why we have library's with no return policy's. This is why we hold regular teach-in's. We mean no harm to the people of Chicago. We love this country. We see it's beauty every day in it's people ( the 99 percent). The 99 percent includes all of us. Even the people who drive by and yell get a job. The people who hide behind their computers leaving snide violent comments about us on the internent. Our movement is not born out of hate for our enemy's, but rather it is born out of love for our people. We do not only want our voices to be heard, but everyone's. The Tea Party, The Green Party, The Socialist Party, The Anarchist's, the poor rural families, the poor urban families, the middle class and everyone in between. You see there is no more blacks, whites, hispanics, middle easterners, asians, gays, straight's. There is only the people who run this country ( the 1 percent), and the people who make this country run ( the 99 percent).
