Tactical Briefing #25: Showdown in Chicago

This article is available in:

Hey you redeemers, rebels and radicals out there,

Against the backdrop of a global uprising that is simmering in dozens of countries and thousands of cities and towns, the G8 and NATO will hold a rare simultaneous summit in Chicago this May. The world’s military and political elites, heads of state, 7,500 officials from 80 nations, and more than 2,500 journalists will be there.

And so will we.

On May 1, 50,000 people from all over the world will flock to Chicago, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and #OCCUPYCHICAGO for a month. With a bit of luck, we’ll pull off the biggest multinational occupation of a summit meeting the world has ever seen.

And this time around we’re not going to put up with the kind of police repression that happened during the Democratic National Convention protests in Chicago, 1968 … nor will we abide by any phony restrictions the City of Chicago may want to impose on our first amendment rights. We’ll go there with our heads held high and assemble for a month-long people’s summit … we’ll march and chant and sing and shout and exercise our right to tell our elected representatives what we want … the constitution will be our guide.

And when the G8 and NATO meet behind closed doors on May 19, we’ll be ready with our demands: a Robin Hood Tax … a ban on high frequency ‘flash’ trading … a binding climate change accord … a three strikes and you’re out law for corporate criminals … an all out initiative for a nuclear-free Middle East … whatever we decide in our general assemblies and in our global internet brainstorm – we the people will set the agenda for the next few years and demand our leaders carry it out.

And if they don’t listen … if they ignore us and put our demands on the back burner like they’ve done so many times before … then, with Gandhian ferocity, we’ll flashmob the streets, shut down stock exchanges, campuses, corporate headquarters and cities across the globe … we’ll make the price of doing business as usual too much to bear.

Jammers, pack your tents, muster up your courage and prepare for a big bang in Chicago this Spring. If we don’t stand up now and fight now for a different kind of future we may not have much of a future … so let’s live without dead time for a month in May and see what happens …

for the wild,

I am for a nuclear free world.

We used to distribute bumper stickers that read "A NUCEAR BOMB CAN SPOIL YOUR WHOLE DAY".

Nuclear disarmament can logically start only from those who have nuclear bombs.

I am also for inspections, but they too will have to start with guys who have them.

Why are United States of Israel wasting time on Iran who neither has one nor wants one.

We the Western Idiots are now totally controlled from Tel Aviv and do not even know it.

Can anybody explain how we lost our mind????

Iran is clearly seeking a nuclear weapon, and will use it to, at the very least, bully Israel. It doesn't matter what you think of Israel, Iran having a nuclear weapon is a huge problem. Their reactors are for the enrichment of uranium to weapons-grade, not for electricity production. It's not the same kind of reactor, and the information on which type they have is widely available. You need to understand the realities of the world we're living in. Iran, like many Muslim countries, seeks to destroy all types of personal freedom and woman's rights. They are not the friends of our movement. And there's nothing wrong with civilian nuclear power. Burning coal emits more radiation simply from naturally occurring isotopes. This is coming from a fellow culture jammer.

First Israel and its Zionist regime are terrorists that pose a threat to the entire world, because Israel has nuclear weapons with ICBMs that can reach any country on the globe. Second, the Zionist regime is not part of the nuclear non proliferation treaty, they do not allow inspectors. Third, the Zionist regime has launched military strikes on many of its neighbors because of a "pending" nuclear threat or for intimidation purposes (bombing reactors in Iraq and Syria, terror attacks in France to destroy reactors under construction, attacking Lebanon etc.). They have imprisoned an entire race of people, and indiscriminately murder, children , women and elderly. In light of these facts I think Iran is justified in the development a nuclear device as an effective deterrent against the existing Zionist nuclear arsenal. Even the Jews realize that you cannot win a nuclear war and it would make them think twice about bullying their neighbors.
Also, If you think burning coal posses a greater health risk due to radioactive isotopes than a fission reactor, I suggest you go for a swim off the coast of Fukushima. I am sure the water is nice and warm all year round now.

One more thing if you think Jews are pro women's rights check out your buddies with the curls-

Perhaps this is not the proper forum for discussing the criminal tendencies of Israel. The world knows them and understands that the occupation of Palestine is a criminal act.
What is relevant to point out is that the existence of a very violent and arrogant Israel costs the whole world hell of a lot of money that can be better spent on beneficial causes. The domination by United States of Israel is a problem for all humanity. OCCUPY movement will have to do something about Israel if it wants to be humanitarian.

Nuclear power in all of its forms is not green, safe or cost-effective. I don't claim to know what type of nuclear material Iran is capable of producing (and I refuse to accept the words of Tel Aviv or DC in this matter) but to date Iran has not produced a nuclear weapon although if they wanted to it is likely that they would have. To date, the only nuclear armed state in the MIddle East is Israel. It is Israel's bellicose behavior, its proclaimed desire to take all of the territory it believes the Old testament promised it and Washington's rarely tempered support of that goal that is a primary reason for war and unrest in the Middle East, not Iran's nuclear program. If the US was really interested in preventing war, they would curb Israel via their pocketbook and enter into genuine talks with all parties to create a nuclear-free mideast. There are elements in the Iranian government that are not freidns of the movement, but there are just as many if not more among the pro-Zionist elements in Israel and the US that are also not friends.
As far as nuclear energy being safe--Fukushima.
As far as it being cheap--nonsense, it is one of the most expensive means of producing power known to humanity.
The amount of money the industry and government puts into developing, maintaining and cleaning up nuclear energy could long ago have created millions of watts in alternative sourced energy.

Ghost of Common...

This is fear mongering. What's clear is that only one country has a 300 year history of never invading another country. Iran. The only time they went into Iraq is when they were attacked. Leave Iran alone. Better yet, go for a visit.
