Suppressing Nonviolent Dissent

An anthology of police brutality at encampments across America.

Veterans assaulted with truncheons, women dragged through the streets by their hair, grandmothers pepper sprayed in the face, peaceful protestors bludgeoned while sitting. Sound like something authorities in Egypt, Tunisia or Syria would order and condone? Think again. It's happening here in the US.

The hateful comments popping

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @06:17 pm

The hateful comments popping up here are hilarious. Like people don't notice their agenda. It's hard to use the term critics because there are so few actual critiques offered. Ad hominem attacks, guilt by association, and other logical fallacies are the main techniques. Pay attention people, there is a meme war on. I see it every time i turn on the news.

And if you oppose OWS, why not offer a rational critique and we'll debate with mutual respect. We're not against you. Criticism is productive. Calling thousands upon thousands of people you don't know filthy useless hippies only shows your lack of effort to even try to understand the situation.

I don't necessarily oppose

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @06:59 pm

I don't necessarily oppose the movement, but I don't understand why camping out in public parks is seen as an effective way to end income inequality (if thats your goal, I'm still not sure). Nobody really cares if you occupy wall street or parks. It doesn't actually affect anyone in power. The only reason cities are starting to evict people are the many serious health and safety issues involved with long term occupation. Public parks are meant for everyone, you don't have the right set up semi-permanent tented communities in them. Doing so has led to some serious problems, which will only get worse, especially with winter coming. Either way, the whole 'occupation' thing doesn't seem to work. You've been at it for 2 or 3 months and nothing has changed. If anything, you've managed to turn most of the public against you by refusing to acknowledge all of the problems within the movement, and disrupting the lives of ordinary people. If this movement continues it needs to establish clear, realistic goals, and take logical steps toward achieving those goals. Saying that your against 'greed' or 'corruption' and then camping out on a street corner is pretty useless and makes that movement look a lot dumber than I think it really is.

Face it-you people are

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @05:20 pm

Face it-you people are failing. Failing to change hearts and minds. Failing to convert new people to your cause. Failing to change people's image of you as anything other than left-wing ,anti-Semitic, fringe extremists with no actionable agenda and no political power.

You are not the 99%. You are not even close to the 99%. I don't know a single person who aligns themselves with OWS. In my town the protesters are laughed at and treated with polite derision. They have accomplished nothing.

Comparing anti-government

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @03:13 pm

Comparing anti-government protests in Syria, Egypt and Tunisia with US government's treatment of OWS is ridiculous. In Tunisia and Egypt, the protesters were venting their decades-old hatred toward western created and protected dictatorships. In case of Syria, it's US-Israel-Turkey militants against a dictatorship which supports anti-Israel forces (Hamas, Hizbullah and Iran).

Contrary to that, OWS movement, is venting their outrage against the 1% fatcats and not the government. However, since most of the ruling class is either part of the 1% or on Wall Street payroll, therefore, the pro-Israel conservatives are demeaning the movement as "un-American", "a bunch of parasites" and "anti-Semitic".

On July 4, a conference of Syrian anti-regime groups was held in Saint-Germain in France. The meeting was attended by 200 people representing none of the Syrian groups calling for reforms in Syria – the ‘Democratic change in Syria’. The meeting was organized by La Regle du Jeu (The Rule of the Game) magazine and website which is headed by Zionist Jew Bernard-Henri Levy. The other Zionist Jews who attended the meeting included Bernard Kouchner, former French foreign minister, Frederik Ansel, a member of Israel’s ruling Likud Party, Alex Goldfarb, former Knesset member and adviser to Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak and Andre Glucksmann, an Islamophobe French writer.

I have no great love of the country of Israel. I do not believe they play fair or treat the non-Jews inside their borders well.

That said, you're still an anti-semitic moron.

Why would all these people who disapprove come to this site to post their bile?
It is an organized effort to disrupt the movement.
As recommended by lobbyists!

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @05:23 pm

We come here because this is where you come, and we have just as much right to our opinion about OWS as you do.

"Why do you rob banks?"

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @04:02 pm

"Why do you rob banks?" "Because that's where the money is..."

People come here to "post their bile," because this the home of the morons who support this ridiculous "movement." Just like you morons go to the homes of "the 1%" to pee on their lawns.

Believe me, there's no organization here. Just regular people who see you for the idiots - potentially *dangerous* idiots - that you are. The folks posting here in opposition to OWS are far less organized than your faux "grassroots movement."

Fact is, whether you morons want to believe it or not, most people in this country just think you're wannabe hippies with no real point and no real goals. You are a bunch of spoiled children, trying to steal from the rich to give to yourselves.

Do us all a favor: Go home and stop annoying people. You are not the "99%," unless by that you mean "99% of the uber-left radical hippie assholes in this country."

Your ignorance amazes me,

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @05:07 pm

Your ignorance amazes me, your cowardice is astonishing and your lack of respect for your fellow human beings is baffling.

No Organization? You just posted on a website showing clear and concise goals of a movement of HUMAN BEINGS who are fighting for YOUR rights.

We are fighting for your rights to post such comments on the internet, to speak freely as you have.

We are not spoiled, we are not hippies and we are not thieves.
We are your neighbors, your teachers, your friends and your family.

We are not stealing, we are not fighting with physical violence, we are not idiots.

Not only am I offended by your message, I am devastated by the lack of respect and hate you have shown towards your fellow man.

You have lost your truth, you have lost your capacity to love.

We are here to restore that capacity to all people, Americans and abroad. And while I wonder how you sleep at night - I wish you the best and hope that you can heal your hate.

Then, enlighten me: What are

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @06:06 pm

Then, enlighten me: What are OWS's goals? Specific, concrete goals for making things better. Not pie in the sky utopian visions and platitudes. Goals. Real, achievable goals.

Without goals, OWS is meaningless. Teach me. I'm here to learn.

How does dragging

by chitownjerry on November 21 2011, @01:53 pm

How does dragging hard-working police men and women into this "movement" help?

Police are union members. Do you really think the police enjoy doing this kind of thing?

You are alienating union members - police, fire, municipal workers - all over this country.

You are costing already budget-strapped cities millions of dollars. You are not costing the Wall St. types one red cent. You are sticking it to the real 99% populace of these cities who will have to pay for all the trouble you have cost.

You guys are like little boys throwing a temper tantrum, not thinking one minute past the here and now, or considering the consequences.

As an aside, you have also dragged the Democratic Party into supporting this mess. They may have you to thank for an even bigger landslide loss next November.

Sleep well, occutards.

Ah, Admiral Yamamoto! He was afraid of invading the US, because - as he is reputed to have said - the Japanese "would find a rifle behind every blade of grass."

In other words, yes, a sleeping giant is being awakened. And, there are those that should be afraid. But, it ain't the regular folks who have anything to worry about. OWS are the invaders. They are the ones who should heed Yamamoto's warning.

by Anonymous on November 21 2011, @11:17 am

If you assholes would just go home, we wouldn't have to waste taxpayers' money on pepper spray. Just think: For every OWS moron who decides to camp out in the park and march across a bridge, that's one more cop working overtime, taking money out of the mouths of poor school children (well, according to your logic, anyway).

Ironic, isn't it? Once again, it's OWS that's hurting the 99%!

Where were the cops when the banks were fraudulently forging signatures to take away peoples' homes?

I wish all the luck to those involved in bringing the western war criminals to justice - but doubt very much the end result will be much different than the Zionist occupied International Ccriminal Court (ICC). According to Malaysian former prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, Israeli Mossad has already infiltrated into Malaysia’s Bukit Aman (Federal Police headquarter in Kuala Lumpur).

by Anonymous on November 20 2011, @08:09 pm

I live in Australia on a pension. Ive had to lower all my expectations of life to survive in the suburbs. I eat great food, have toys, drive a car, mobile phone, internet and receive good medical and dental services. I live at the bottom end of my community, but live very well. I don't understand the whole occupy movement as presented. It seems about money and corporations. 99% of Americans wanting a bigger share of the 1% wealth that has been generated by screwing up 99% of the world. Its good to see Americans fighting over the spoils amongst themselves for once.
