Soft Regime Change in America
The #OCCUPY movement is entering an ominous new phase.
Police attacked #OCCUPYOAKLAND on Tuesday with tear gas, rubber bullets and flash grenades. Scott Olsen, a two time Iraq war veteran, was critically wounded in the assault. Graphic pictures of an unconscious Olsen, his skull fractured, being carried by fellow protestors to safety have reverberated from Zuccotti to Cairo and escalated the movement. On Wednesday, three thousand protestors reclaimed the square, reestablished their encampment and held a general assembly that called for a General Strike.
"We as fellow occupiers of Oscar Grant Plaza propose that on Wednesday November 2, 2011, we liberate Oakland and shut down the 1%... All banks and corporations should close down for the day or we will march on them."
There are signs of occupations in other cities taking up Oakland's call. A tantalizing possibility hangs in the air: Could a wildcat general strike spread across the nation? Are we witnessing the first clues of how a soft regime change might begin in America?

The movement is gaining force. A dialogue has begun. It is time to take it to the next level. It is time for trade unions to unite with the movement. We must call for a Global sick out. One day, all day long, all unnecessary personnel must not work.

Ralph Chaplin states that "the ultimate aim of the General Strike as regards wages is to give to each producer the full product of his labor. The demand for better wages becomes revolutionary only when it is coupled with the demand that the exploitation of labor must cease"

Why are we limiting occupation to Wall Street and the like? Our initial task is educating the masses that do not under stand how we got here. They do not understand how the moneylender's charges increase cost of things many fold, and how they reduce our salaries by similar factors. The present debt crisis is created by the moneylenders. They own everything, and all of us are in debt. The issue is distribution of money not shortage of needed goods and services. We can produce all that is needed, but the moneylender claims all ownership, and we have no money to buy them. Why are we not occupying churches and demanding that they preach abolition of usury as they did up till a few decades ago? Why are we not occupying universities and demanding that professors stop teaching money comes from moneylenders? Why are we not declaring up front that the present contrived debts can never be paid? They will have to be written off. This will result in fairer distribution of wealth, and improved standard of living for the 99% without any real hardship for the 1%. IS THAT NOT OUR REAL AIM?
