Thoughts on Thanks(taking)giving Day.

It's ironic that on a day we are supposed to be thankful for our 'blessings', (as if some deity gave us all the material things we have like factory farm turkeys), we sit around, over-stuff our faces, watch football (the circus), burp a lot, fart a lot, drink a lot, and just basically consume, rest, and consume some more.

What was it Caesar said; give them bread and a circus and they'll be happy?

But it doesn't end there. Oh no. The Friday (I have no idea why it's called 'black' except that all those 'goods' are tearing our Mother Earth apart) after Thanks(taking)giving Day is the busiest shopping day of the year, followed by the month-long, fever-pitched, onslaught of Christmas super-shopping.

I wonder if Jesus Christ would be impressed by how the corporations have turned his birthday into a circus-like orgy of consumerism?

This year I decided to boycott Thanks(taking)giving by fasting, by standing in solidarity with the millions of starving, underfed people of the world that watch American television shows about Thanks(taking)giving from the community or shop window TV sets and wish they had something to be thankful for. Do you think the images of gluttonous frivolity make them like us more?

They watch how we go back for second or even third helpings, and when we can't finish that last plate off we simply shovel the remainder into the trash without a second thought.

I decided to show thanks that I have a humble little apartment by cleaning it up. The bathroom was particularly disgusting but I cleaned it up anyway.

Now it's nearing the end of the day, I'm hungry but alive. And I'm thankful for my clean little apartment.

Multi-billionare, Stephen Schwarzman, CEO Blackstone Group has said Democratic efforts to close a pernicious tax provision known as the carried interest loophole was akin to Nazi invasions during World War II.

Stephen Schwarzman, a practicing Jew, believes that Obama administration is anti-Wall Street. In February, in a comment post in the Washington Post, he wrote that bank-bashing could destroy the US economy’s fledgling recovery as bank may get scared.

The days of the pagan conclusions are over for the days of truth and reality...Jesus lives because we record and remember him and the stories about him.

You can live forever too! Record well what you do. One day you shall be proud to have fought the beast against Humans!

Do not let the follies of the conclusions of others stop you from being glorified in the future!

by Anonymous on November 27 2011, @06:37 pm

It's the classic "Us" versus "Them", and everybody thinks they're right.
Now I'm not necessarily For or Against the OWS movement; I'm merely an
observer. At the start of OWS I was sympathetic to the protesters/message,
but as time passes I've found myself becoming increasingly disenchanted and
critical of the movement. The OWS sit-ins and protests, whatever they stand
for, haven't accomplished much at all. Sure, they make for great
demonstrations, and they've certainly pissed off a lot of people, but
ultimately they haven't been very successful beyond the scope of attracting
attention to themselves. Instead of raising positive awareness, they've
raised tempers, and failed to adequately communicate/educate the public
about what they stand for, and why they stand for it. True, this is partly
due to media sabotage and the complacent ignorance of much of the public,
but it's also greatly due to OWS's inability to effectively create/mobilize
a clear and uniform course of action- aside from sporadic protests and
marches. Furthermore, the movement is fragmented, lacks a coherent direction
and discernable goals. OWS has attracted people from all sorts of opposing
ideologies, and has become inherently self-contradictory, with many people
only attending rallies to promote their own agendas. The only image and
message that OWS has been able to maintain is that they're against
BigMoneyInterests, and the injustice and problems therein. Although that is
a great message, it completely falls short of tangible social change. There
is something inherently naive about OWS and their tactics.
That being said, I can appreciate the overall message of OWS, and I do
agree that the current global economic paradigm has many faults. But
standing around bitching won't change anything, nor will pissing off your
peers and your community. At this point the name "Ocuppy" itself is sullied.
That's not to say that the movement no longer possesses potential, but if
anything is going to be salvaged from it, they will have to rid the name
"Occupy" and start anew.
In the end OWS may be seen as a haunting precursor to something much
larger. But for now the majority of the public is still much too comfortable
with the status quo to get behind any serious cause for
social/political/economic paradigm shifts. We're simply not desperate enough
to see/think honestly. Maybe my observations are poor, and perhaps I am
wrong.
Time/History will tell.

by Anonymous on November 29 2011, @09:54 am

I respond to your letter with an open letter to a "terrorist sponsor" in the position of Mayor of New York City, that clearly illustrates what OWS is against, the "terrorism of the rich, proud, powerful money interests" that also combines the power of the sword, meaning they control the police, the military and the "SO CALLED JUSTICE SYSTEM", I like you am an "observer" but I did appear at one occupy movement in the Southern United States, because I felt it gave me an opportunity to "push for the truth" about those who currently "control and handle power contrary to constitutional principles" in NY city and State and elsewhere!

Dear MR BLOOMBERG, mayor of New York City, that has been referred to by a christian prophet as the city of "CAINHANNOCH" meaning the place where "EVIL MURDERERS" rule and have their site of residence!

I have a few questions for you that may be "embarrassing" from a political perspective, but which may assist in bringing out the truth as to why NEW YORK CITY has become the target for terrorist violence!

Interrogatories and questions as in a Law Suit based on criminal proceedure as well as civil procedure if in a civil case, but clearly this is a "criminal proceeding" therefore consider yourself indicted by a "UNIVERSAL JUSTICE department"!

Question #1:

Do you or do you not have in your city a group of Kings, known as philanthropists, that are "philosophical" about the use of murder and treason as a attempt to "circumvent" constitutional law and instead promote the law of 'EVIL KINGS" who have usurped power through illegitimate means from the days that CAIN murdered Abel?

Question # 2:

Were you or where you not aware of the fact that the NYPD recently trained a terrorist for the purpose of detonating an explosive device in NYC so that you could enslave another poor follower of Islam for the express purpose of "increasing the riches of your wicked criminal class", while impoverishing this poor religious zealot even further by telling him the truth about "HOW WICKED YOU REALLY ARE" and that you are all "EVIL CRUSADERS" who swear each other to secrecy about "MURDER, TREASON AND GENOCIDE" so that you can then "control and conquer the world" and suppress it with "police brutality" like you have done in the clearing of parks all over the United States of America?

Question # 3:

Do you are do you not "promote to power evil people" all over the world and have you or have you not, of course not you personally but your "evil organization of wicked kings", promoted to power even the most wicked dictator in History who claimed he was the "greatest field marshal of all times"?

Finally Question # 4:

Are you or are you not part of a 'secret combination of conspiring kings' WHO SAY THEY MEANING THE KINGS DID NO WRONG BY "MURDERING BOTH SNITCHES, PROPHETS OF GOD AND PRESIDENTS OF THE US", because in order to rule, sometimes you have to 'break the rules'?

Very well said! Enough

by realdealagent on November 28 2011, @09:26 pm

Very well said!
Enough Occupying Wall st...
At this point I was hoping for a more direct approach.
Thusfar, not 1 top dog banker has been arrested or served jailtime for theft of our bailout money used for their own greed.
WHY is that?
Occupy needs to associate themselves with sympathertic high power lawyers that are willing to take on these crooks who think they are untouchable.
Enough with the demos and protests...it's getting old and will fizzle when the cold weather sets in.
I'm all for change, but it has to be done legally.
Another suggestion is to "target" these so called untouchables who live uptown NYC and surround their homes.
I know some are doing this, but we need more people and pressure.
Bloomberg must get thrown out of office, as he's behind his paid for cops who have injured innocent people.
He needs to serve jail time. Time to turn up the heat and get some possitive results. I feel the movement is losing direction as well.

What happens to the small

by Anonymous on November 29 2011, @10:28 am

What happens to the small business owners who are just getting by and have their shops in the areas that are being occupied? How about the workers that can't get to work? What about the lack of income coming into these mom & pop stores so they now have to lay people off during the holidays?
How does that help anyone?
And another thing - since when is everyone who has money bad?
Can we please stay away from that?
Not all corporations are bad. Yes - there are crooks. But I know some poor crooks and some wealthy crooks. Is there a difference?
None of us really want war - we want peace.
We all want better education for our children.
We all want health insurance.
But at what point is it not worth it to go to work every day and bust your ass to make the money to support everything? Yes - give back and help others. But at some point do you want something to show for it? Like a nice house? Like education for your kids? Like a car? Like your own business?
At any given day any of us can be out on the streat. And by the Grace of God some of us are ok and should find ways to take care of those that are not. But because our education choices are "limited" and we can't do what we want and get what we want and don't have as much as others - that is not why we should be upset!
How about the family living in their car? Why aren't they protesting? Oh- they are too worried about feeding their kids and finding every last dollar they can from any job available to protest. Let's worry about them. Let's not put the mom and pop out of business by occupying their area so that people don't patronize their business any longer and they have to fire the little help they have.
Vote in someone who is going to make a difference. Stop sitting around stomping your feet and crying and change it! Mommy and Daddy aren't going to give you a handout forever. Change it if you have a problem with it, but be damn sure that no matter how you change ANY system there are people that are going to find a way to take advantage of it. So be careful what you ask for.

Merry Christmas!

by BM on November 28 2011, @06:09 am

And the entire notion of criticising and "us" vs "them" is just suicidal. You are saying "the war you declare on me doesn't exist" while bombs knock out your house. Hopeless ignorance. Hopeless. OWS has no point? You have no point.

Dude, there is no way you are

by BM on November 28 2011, @06:05 am

Dude, there is no way you are just an observer to anything. You have your own goals and one of them is discrediting this tiny magazine and the movement it helped form. It's impossible to say "I am simply an observer" and then all you do is talk shit about OWS from YOUR perspective, which isn't dealing with a lot of information. For example, I have access to all of the information I need to adequately understand the economics motivating OWS. If you want me to spoon feed you the information I had to discover all by myself, because you are too lazy to get enough information about a subject before you protest it, then you can't possibly be serious about protesting anything. You are here Occupying Adbusters and what are your stated goals? None. What you are doing falls short of tangible social change! Your opinion is a fragmented opinion among your opinion group, many of you agreeing that Occupy has "attracted people from all sorts of opposing ideologies, and has become inherently self-contradictory, with many people only attending rallies to promote their own agendas," while failing to notice that you have no movement, no group, no unit OPPOSING Occupy collectively. None. Where Occupy may have a few thousand, you have no group whatsoever. These fucked up hypocritical contradictions you have created for yourself exist only because you are here bitchinng about how bitching doesn't accomplsh anything. Either admit that what you just did got a result (my reply), and thus OWS got results (you coming to Adbusters), or sit there and eat your own bullshit alone.

by Anonymous on November 27 2011, @06:48 pm

Sometimes you have to READ AN ENTIRE BOOK to figure out why you should be mad at Wall Street and you can't just get a soundbite to believe it.

Of course the magazine is based on the West Coast where so many people move because they are either running or hiding from someone/something or can't make make it in the real world. There they live off social assistance and criticize all the rest of the hard working population. Wonder what they would do if their occupy movement was ever successful enough that corporate jobs disappeared and there wasn't enough funds to pay for their social assistance.

lol Show me on the doll where the social assistance program touched you!
What're you mad about? People taking care of people? Are you insane? You are complaining about assistance! So... you pay your own bills? You print the money yourself? You got all that food in the grocery store by making all the deliveries? Your boss doesn't pay you to work for him? That would be assisting you and directly hurting himself. Why pay you to do something he could do? That's nothing more than a welfare program. Your labor is worth nothing anyway, what, 7.75? Why not zero? Then you'd be really earning your keep!

by greg_2 on November 26 2011, @09:48 am

It is a message, a thought, a meme, whatever.

BND will have zero affect on Macys, Target, Wal-mart, Toys R Us etc. Even if it could, that is not the point.

BND will have zero affect on the economy; it can't fix it (if it's broke), can't break it (if it's not).

BND is a simple message: "wake-the-fuck-up and learn about your economy, learn where your dollars go, learn what dollars are for fuck sakes" -- a message.

Right-wing goons will never "get" OWS so all they can do is attempt to tear it down. Good luck!

Some people are told what to believe. Some people believe only what is written in a single book. Some people never stop trying to understand the world. (I prefer taking mushrooms, but that is a different topic.)

"We just disagree with you," someone said. Then fuck off. What are you doing here then? Like you are the sole person who is going to "take down" OWS by posting here. With mere insults no less.

Ya right. Oh please. Whatever.

Bunch of Rontard shills....

'We just disagree with you,

by Right Wing Goon on November 26 2011, @10:38 am

'We just disagree with you, Then fuck off". This attitude is exactly whats wrong with the far left. You always speak of your open-mindedness and talk about the importance of diversity, However, when it comes to respecting diversity of thought, you completely fail. Liberals claim to open to all points of view, but the second you disagree with them they attempt to silence you. This happens on university campuses all the time, conservative viewpoints are often labeled 'hate speech' and silenced. If you voice a conservative opinion you get labeled a racist, fascist, redneck, etc. The reason behind this is that the far left believes in conformity, and is against individual liberty. Everyone should think the same way, earn the same wages, and and not question the church of political correctness. We post on this site because we have just as much right to do so as you do. Some of us actually believe in the importance of discussion and debate. We have the right to disagree and post our opinions. If you don't like them, then don't read them.

I am no Leftist.

How will I know if I "like them" if I don't read them?

I could go on pointing out your flaws, but what is the point?
