#OCCUPYXMAS kicks off Nov 25/26

Let's take back the season!

Hey dreamers, occupiers, rabble-rousers,

You’ve been sleeping on the streets for two months pleading peacefully for a new spirit in economics. And just as your camps are raided, your eyes pepper sprayed and your head’s knocked in, another group of people are preparing to camp-out. Only these people aren’t here to support occupy Wall Street, they’re here to secure their spot in line for a Black Friday bargain at Super Target and Macy’s.

Occupy gave the world a new way of thinking about the fat cats and financial pirates on Wall Street. Now lets give them a new way of thinking about the holidays, about our own consumption habits. Lets’ use the coming 20th annual Buy Nothing Day to launch an all-out offensive to unseat the corporate kings on the holiday throne.

This year’s Black Friday will be the first campaign of the holiday season where we set the tone for a new type of holiday culminating with #OCCUPYXMAS. As the global protests of the 99% against corporate greed and casino capitalism continues, lets take the opportunity to hit the empire where it really hurts…the wallet.

On Nov 25/26th we escape the mayhem and unease of the biggest shopping day in North America and put the breaks on rabid consumerism for 24 hours. Flash mobs, consumer fasts, mall sit-ins, community events, credit card-ups, whirly-marts and jams, jams, jams! We don’t camp on the sidewalk for a reduced price tag on a flat screen TV or psycho-killer video game. Instead, we occupy the very paradigm that is fueling our eco, social and political decline.

Historically, Buy Nothing Day has been about fasting from hyper consumerism – a break from the cash register and reflecting on how dependent we really are on conspicuous consumption. On this 20th anniversary of Buy Nothing Day, we take it to the next level, marrying it with the message of #occupy…

We #OCCUPYXMAS.

Shenanigans begin November 25!

for the wild,

But we first need to obtain singularity before any of us have any power.

And if you read some of the comments being left on here, you'll notice we haven't yet achieved that. There are too many people adopting the "keep calm, carry on" attitude.

People need to be woken up. Life ain't fair! Right? It's bull$h!t that it has to be that way. Everyone deserves health care, and the right to afford a dentist, and access to good, healthy food, and time to spend with their families, and a chance to enjoy a hobby. etc etc.

You spend 8 or 9 or 10 hours a day with your co workers, and by the time you make it home, you might see your spouse and children for about 4 hours. That's bad for the few of us who actually enjoy and like spending time with our spouses etc.

Nobody "deserves" anything, unless they have earned it. What gives anybody the right to take another's products or services without remuneration?

Doctors need to get paid to make a living. They can't give their services away for free. It's wrong to expect them to work for nothing. Same goes for dentists, farmers, grocers, etc.

Taking away from Peter to pay Paul just makes Peter poor. After a while, there's nothing left to take.

You people really need to rethink the disjointed logic you use to reach your opinions.

So an old lady walking down the street gets mugged and stabbed in the process. She's bleeding out and walks into a hospital. She has no insurance, and barely has any savings.

WIth your "un"-disjointed logic, you're saying she deserves to die because a) she can't afford to pay for the doctors visit, and b) taking away from peter (doctor) to give to paul (old lady who's about to die) is unfair.

What do you think happens to the grocer who goes into the dentist with no money, yet needs a tooth fixed? Is their a chance he says "hey, can you fix my tooth, that's great, come buy the shop and pick up a couple of papayas over the weekend".

You know what. Many of us our just as sick and tired of this selfish, greedy logic some people have adapted over the years (of capitalism).

Now I've just got to ask. What have you done to deserve to live. To breath my air... to drink my water. You better not tell me finance or office work. God forbid you actually do something that holds some type of meaning outside of a capitalist economy.

In my world. Old ladies deserve to live even if they can't afford to pay for health care. And doctors should feel better about the fact that they saved a life rather than feel they were properly compensated for it in a financial sense.

Nobody "deserves" anything but we all feel entitled though.

I'm pretty sure it's against the law to deprive someone of basic needs. Clean drinking water. Nutritious food. Access to health care. Shelter. Even prisoners have all of that.

But some Americans. Some Canadians. And many others from around the world do not.

It's sad some people would rather put those people to work rather than provide them a chance for a better life. You'd think. If someone feels privileged rather than entitled... you might have more people willing to give back... to provide others with the same opportunities they themselves had.
