#OCCUPYWALLSTREET This Saturday
#OCCUPYWALLSTREET is a people powered movement for democracy that began in America on September 17 with an encampment in the financial district of New York City. Inspired by the Egyptian Tahrir Square uprising and the Spanish acampadas, we vow to end the monied corruption of our democracy.
Dreamers, jammers, rabble-rousers and revolutionaries,
#OCCUPYWALLSTREET is a week old and roaring strong. We, the people, are finding our voice, realizing that, yes we can revive our democracy. It is beautiful. It is an achievement. And it has the potential to grow into something even more wild and wonderful over the next few weeks and months.
This Saturday at noon at the people's assembly in Liberty Plaza there will be a celebration of our incredible first week. Last Saturday, 5,000 people flocked nonviolently to Wall Street … this Saturday there will be 10,000. And then in the weeks that follow, we will swell to 50,000 … and maybe even to 100,000+ by mid-October. Wouldn't that be something!
For those who cannot make it to Wall Street's liberated space, why not organize #OCCUPYCHICAGO, #OCCUPYDALLAS, #OCCUPYSANFRANCISCO, #OCCUPYBOSTON and #OCCUPYDC. This is the perfect moment to expand our movement into financial districts, iconic sites of economic power and branches of Bank of America everywhere.
According to PBS Newshour, 45 percent of young Americans aged 16 to 29 don't have a job. Economists are talking glumly about a "lost generation" but they've got it wrong. We're the generation that pulls off the second American Revolution.
This Saturday at Noon, let's escalate #OCCUPYWALLSTREET into a nationwide peaceful demand for economic justice.
for the wild,

I for one am completely behind the one demand being "revoke corporate personhood". That would wipe out a lot of problems at once. Not all, but a good step forward.

I'm a little concerned that there is no common message among the protestors. I support a protest of wall street, but it seems those involved need a leader and to boil down their issue to one or a handful of issues. The media has mostly said its a group of people with a multitude of gripes from war to the rich to bailouts and so on.
Personally, I think the problem comes down to greed. It is America's #1 value and it dictates he decisions our government makes. The 5% at the top run our country. They have the power, they make the rules and the rules are all aimed at more money for that same group.
I think, for starters I would focus on questioning the top 5%'s American value system of jobs overseas, cutting programs, tax loopholes, and basically everything they can do to get richer. Is that what "being American" is about? To reinvent America, you have to redefine (or realign) what being "American" is with the original ideals of the country.

I agree....a message must be spoken by someone given the proxy status for the entire group. It must be a united organized protest not some hippy dippy lay-down....this could actually hurt the cause...Colbert report shows how...

It's about time for America to stand up against these greedy bankers. If the protesters wanted to truly make an impact that's effective, there should be a campaign added urging all Americans to immediately withdraw any money they have on deposit with a BANK and transfer it into an account with a local CREDIT UNION. Profits in a credit union are returned to it's member owners, not ridiculous executive bonuses.
