Lets start by p...
There is a move to ban any kind of cell phone use in the car. That seems fine as far as it goes but it might also be a way to go after coercive commercial speech. Freeway billboards flat out kill people especially when they aren't simply a sign that marks location. This billboard firm and advertisers are actually profiting from causing death and property devaluation/damage. And yet its generally tort immune and it shouldn't be. Its wrongfully coercive speech in the say way that telling someone their loved one is dead when they aren't. Wrongful like shouting fire in a crowded theater just to generate panic. Its its worse from the profit angle. There is no waiting here there is no bullshit business case this needs to stop tomorrow. Done right it can bring back the place of privacy and end money as speech.

Alternative media can ask people by way of making them aware to stop engaging any kind of sponsored media. 'Don't believe everything you read' needs to become something like: sponsored media is generally less than worthless and always incredibly suspect. I think we are seeing that effect with newspapers. They aren't failing as much because they are digital but because the there never was any firewall and due to sponsorship and the sponsored elements its become a culture of misinformation and people recognize their stuff as a puffed up infomercial or worse.
People need understand that lobbying is a symptom of sponsorship and sponsored lives. Calling preemption and patronage something different doesn't change their character or the nature of what is going on. We've got sponsored that is to say captured government because we have a media that filters useful information away from us because it is paid to do so. Its insane that people accept that media firms should be paid in order for there to be political coverage. We need an alternative to news firms and for profit media in general but we never should have accepted that prostituted arrangement. Money should be barred from it and they could have been forced to carry it or we could have had some truly transparent open public media that would cover it but as it is even our public media is sponsored bullshit. NPR for instance is almost total garbage because of its corporate underwriting- why would we ever accept a hybrid and then tolerate its fake begging on top of that?
