Occupy Econ 101
When a science is dying, disciples begin to refuse initiation.
This is what happened last Wednesday in the class of Harvard economics professor Gregory Mankiw, with these simple opening words: “Today, we are walking out of your class.”
The rejection of Mankiw’s class is only a single event in the class of one professor, and yet this refusal may prove to be an event with a much wider significance. Mankiw's econ 101 textbook, Principles of Economics, has made it into the minds of almost every economics student in the modern world and if the students of Mankiw can revolt, then it is possible that students everywhere can begin the task of rethinking the dysfunctional old neoclassical paradigm.
In response to the walk-out, Mankiw has only doubled down his orthodoxy, claiming that the 1% have suffered more than the 99% as a result of the recession. Now is the time for a global walk-out. Download a poster of the True Cost Economics Manifesto at kickitover.org and pin it up in the corridor of your department. Let's start an all out meme war against our neoclassical profs and begin the daunting task of ushering in a new bionomic, psychonomic, ecological economics paradigm.
Now is a good time to begin an escalation and turn the whole world into a grand economics department … to occupy it.

Your comment is amusing, since it's spelled goddamnit... as in "God damn it". Yes. Yes, that is a silent 'n'.

That's the ticket! Get even more ignorance into your toolboxes! This is the aim of the left: imbibe your followers with irrational propaganda and demonize your enemies, e.g. those who actually understand economics. Sorry, folks, but you cannot "make up" a new economic system. The laws of the market are immutable and will work their magic whether you like it or not. This thing, this "movement," is extremely disturbing. If you don't like market economics / capitalistic systems, then get out of this country. Why don't you get it? This nation was founded on personal, economic, and religious freedom, which are consistent ONLY with a market-oriented system. Period. Walking out of a class will only make you zombies and tools of these dirty, violent, dangerous thug-anarchists. What you don't recognize, likely because you haven't STUDIED ECONOMICS, is that it is not the market that has failed us, nor is a science "dying," (get real), but it was the interference of the government that altered the market to dangerous and destructive effect, all in the name of righting the wrongs of "past discrimination." (VOMIT) It does no one any favors when you force banks to lend to people who have poor credit and insufficient income and assets and encourage excessive risk-taking via loose monetary policy, as one day ... oops! Defaults! Bankruptcies! Foreclosures! Thank Fannie (FNMA) and Freddie (FHLMC) for this, as well as Bawney Fwank, Chris Dodd, and of course the Obamunist, as well as Clinton originally, for these favors. Now, you can believe what you make up in your mind that sounds good (classical econ is "dying," the 1% are "stealing," there is a "conspiracy," etc.) and CLOSE YOUR MINDS like all good leftist cretins do to the facts, and end up freezing on Wall Street, OR you can open your minds, stop the rage against the machine and mom and dad cause I hate math and just want to color on my easel all day and why don't those greedy rich criminals just give away everything so we can all live in dope-smoking harmony, and face reality: life is not fair. Deal with it. And go back to your economics class. You might learn something.

Sounds good. But alas, you too have the story wrong. It did not happen as you suggest. And perhaps if you drop out and stop spewing back the corporate media /Wall Street version of what went so wrong.. your eyes would be opened.
Nice try though.
