A Movement is Born
Jammers, dreamers, rabble-rousers, revolutionaries,
#OCCUPYWALLSTREET is thundering across America, threatening to morph into a full fledged national movement. Channeling the nonviolence of the Egyptian Tahrir Square uprising and the bottom-up collective decision making of the Spanish acampadas, we vow to end the monied corruption of our democracy.
This Saturday #OCCUPYWALLSTREET enters its third week … be there at Noon and stay for the weekend … or be at one of the 50+ fledgling occupations now being organized across the land.
Our people's democracy movement is about to get three mighty boosts:
- On October 6, a few thousand of us will swarm the capital and #OCCUPYDC. Find out the plan at october2011.org
- On October 15th, the movement goes global … check it out at 15october.net
- Then, on November 3 and 4, we have something special in mind for when the G20 leaders meet in France.
Time to live!
for the wild,

PS.
Our movement needs more edgy theatrics … maybe we should tar and feather the Charging Bull … or burn an effigy of Lloyd Blankfein? Send your wild ideas to [email protected].
To get a sense of the visceral mood at #OCCUPYWALLSTREET, check out the daily dispatches from OccupyTVNY along with the mini-documentaries "We Are The 99%" and "Nobody Can Predict The Moment Of Revolution." Also, David Graeber's op-ed in the Guardian and Nathan Schneider's article in the Nation are worth reading.

You're livid that a foreign magazine advocate change in the US? The US aggressively advocates adherence to its systemic failures from one corner of the globe to another. To the movement; you have my support, from the antipodes.

I see a few comments about adopting policy - ideas and discussions are great but more important is endurance and participation - people can sense the fundamental injustices and are reflecting that in the public sphere - let it rise organically and fully express a whole range of 'other' - clever ideas can be adopted later when political presence has been built - people peacefully expressing indignation at injustice is the democratic ideal - its a statement in and of itself - if the people go toe to toe with the system, America and the system will be forced to respond and when they do they will be making a statement - and a fundamental question will be asked - do we really live in a democracy? A lot of people who take an interest in these things will say 'no we don't' but what will be important is that a large majority who normally do not take such a keen interest will be left in no doubt.
And in a seemingly complete contradiction an idea i had but have seen it mentioned once today was a mortgage default program for owner occupiers, as they come up to default - the loan is frozen - live mortgage free for a couple of months - excellent broad based stimulus to my mind - lenders not wanting to wait too long restructure the loan - this should have been done at the beginning of the crisis and would have benefited even the bankers (except massive credit default swap holders) but wasn't done because they are so financial sector centric it didn't occur to them

You got a big mention from Huff Post.
Power to the people.
Vietnam was wrong and it took protests to end it.
Iraq was wrong and it took protests to end it.
Greed is wrong and it will take protests to end it.
Our country is run by greedy, hate monger right-wing Neocons who can't let ordinary people get equal with them. Banks are sitting on Trillions of dollars, corporations are making obseen profits. CEO are paid far too much for what they do.
Typing behind a keyboard is lazy and ineffective, get out in the street and change things.

You say "clever ideas can be adopted later" as if there is some think tank on deck ready to come up with a "clever" solution to very complicated problems. Ideas and discussion are more than "great," they are necessary. Where endurance and participation are the arm of the movement, ideas and discussion are the mind, and without one, the other is useless. So higher importance can't be placed on either one of them because they are inextricable in the contexts of a revolution. For full effect, it must be a multi-pronged attack, mental and physical. This takes organization on a mass scale, and that takes people capable of leading, and also, educating and formulating ideas on what to do next. Otherwise it is a messy revolution that will end messy, win or lose.
