A Movement is Born

As #OWS spreads across the country, people are realizing, it's time to live!

This article is available in:

Jammers, dreamers, rabble-rousers, revolutionaries,

#OCCUPYWALLSTREET is thundering across America, threatening to morph into a full fledged national movement. Channeling the nonviolence of the Egyptian Tahrir Square uprising and the bottom-up collective decision making of the Spanish acampadas, we vow to end the monied corruption of our democracy.

This Saturday #OCCUPYWALLSTREET enters its third week … be there at Noon and stay for the weekend … or be at one of the 50+ fledgling occupations now being organized across the land.

Our people's democracy movement is about to get three mighty boosts:

  • On October 6, a few thousand of us will swarm the capital and #OCCUPYDC. Find out the plan at october2011.org
  • On October 15th, the movement goes global … check it out at 15october.net
  • Then, on November 3 and 4, we have something special in mind for when the G20 leaders meet in France.

Time to live!

for the wild,

PS.

Our movement needs more edgy theatrics … maybe we should tar and feather the Charging Bull … or burn an effigy of Lloyd Blankfein? Send your wild ideas to [email protected].

To get a sense of the visceral mood at #OCCUPYWALLSTREET, check out the daily dispatches from OccupyTVNY along with the mini-documentaries "We Are The 99%" and "Nobody Can Predict The Moment Of Revolution." Also, David Graeber's op-ed in the Guardian and Nathan Schneider's article in the Nation are worth reading.

I own a gun too. And know how to use it as well. And I am not a conservative. But you do prove how stupid they usually are.

It is my hope that the OWS movement centers itself around the idea that the American Democracy is under attack by Wall Street through a legalized system of bribery. We the people reserve the right to govern ourselves, and not be governed by CEO's with no accountability. We uphold the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, Universal Human Rights, and social and environmental accounting. The movement is not anti-corporate, but anti-corporatism. The movement is not anti-capitalist, but anti-crony capitalist. The movement is not partisan, but patriotic. The movement is not anti-wealth, but anti-aristocracy. The movement is pro-democracy, pro-liberty, pro-equality, and pro-opportunity.

My thoughts anyway.

hat's what we all want Drew, but you must remember corporations are created to make money, flat out, that's it. Look at Wal Mart and how they've destroyed lives of millions of Americans by forcing their vendors to reduce price points to such a level that employees lose health care, lose benefits, lose their jobs, especially in manufacturing.
Why don't you include Wal Mart in the Occupy focus. If Wal Mart is forced to deal with their vendors at a reasonable level, you will create jobs, you will create income and you will most importantly raise the expectations of millions of Americans who are giving up, living with fewer expectations, I know you get it!
Why not take the Occupy movement on the road, there must be hundreds of Wal Mart parking lots aroudn the country, set up parking lot schools to educate Americans in the middle states who've forgotten what their ancestors fought for in 1776, who are confining themselves to the little boxes of control initiated through fear and prejudice, giving up their freedoms slowly but surely
Living in NYC, I noticed last christmas season very few people with manners, they will just walk in front of you as you look at something on a shelf, manners seem to be a thing of the past
I love what OWS is about, I feel strongly there are other foes you are letting slide by..
- Congressmen/women on payrolls of big corporations, big pharma and big oil - start a webpage, expose them and their greed as they enact the laws the financial world follows
- Wal Mart as noted above, I work in fashion, I've seen many, many intelligent, hard-working friends lose jobs to Wal Mart as chargebacks and price points take precedence, how do you think WalMart sells at such low prices, it isn't all cheap imports from China!!
- Ethics, what has happened to humanity, in less than 50 years, we've gone from the Kennedy's to the Kardashian's. Let's get ethics back into schools, kids learn from their parents, apparently not much is being passed along in this department. The Kennedy's were about community service, ask not what...the Kardashians take, take, take and their fans seem to be doing the same.
- Media - FOX - let's stay this side of the National Enquirer..why are you not calling them out, taking the hearts and minds of uneducated Americans, like I said, parking lot schools...
Thank you for starting this battle, just don't forget their are equally important fronts slipping by.
Good luck, bon chance, Aloha

Dude, Walmart is a gnat on a flies butt compared to the internet. The internet is changing EVERYTHING!!!! Walmart was just a pit stop, Moron..THe World does not speak through Walmart, Target, Lowes, Cosco, etc..Honestly, do you have a problem with Walmart? Lets go protest the INTERNET so we can ALL stay stoopid, and ignorant about this seeded Over Class Bourgeois starting a tantrum in NYC and created apparently in Canada. Who knows,? I am sure that in time, Truth will ultimately win...I certainly hope so. All most of us observing..we must weigh consequences of people who seem irrational. However, if a spark of something Rational surfaces...I do believe, -- but who or what do I believe in? Government who Steals from the Coffers of Public Welfare...Look around, Is Government working anywhere in our World right now....Who do you Trust? A country? A man? A God? No one seems trustworthy? Radio, television, newspaper are 99% BS....The United States and its people will bare the Angst...So don't get too Rosy, Hypocrite.. With Walmart...I am Shallow, I am Alive, I will Survive, even without a GD discount...What will surface?

Every American, everyone living in Europe

knees we will all have freedom.
