A Movement is Born
Jammers, dreamers, rabble-rousers, revolutionaries,
#OCCUPYWALLSTREET is thundering across America, threatening to morph into a full fledged national movement. Channeling the nonviolence of the Egyptian Tahrir Square uprising and the bottom-up collective decision making of the Spanish acampadas, we vow to end the monied corruption of our democracy.
This Saturday #OCCUPYWALLSTREET enters its third week … be there at Noon and stay for the weekend … or be at one of the 50+ fledgling occupations now being organized across the land.
Our people's democracy movement is about to get three mighty boosts:
- On October 6, a few thousand of us will swarm the capital and #OCCUPYDC. Find out the plan at october2011.org
- On October 15th, the movement goes global … check it out at 15october.net
- Then, on November 3 and 4, we have something special in mind for when the G20 leaders meet in France.

List the biggest banks who are corrupt that you are opposing and list those that are not. Ask people to move their money from the most corrupt banks to the least corrupt banks.
Begin to consider your demands. When the movement finally gets big enough, make your demands. At this point, THEY are considering you to be a tired 3-year-old child who doesn't know what he or she wants. THEY think this child is just angry, fatigued and throwing a temper tantrum.
I think part of your demands should include impeachment proceedings for our current president and congress...yes, our lame duck congress.
I think legislation should be put in place putting limits on salaries, retirement plans, and duration in office for congress and the president. These people are supposed to be public servants and should be paid a middle class wage. See who steps up to the plate for the job then. Demand that these people cannot profit from their position or accept funds from special interest groups.
I think the demand should include the restoration of all of our rights under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The patriot act should be repealed as well as the health care plan as both of these acts contain violations of our civil rights. Repeal any other act that questions our rights under the Constitution.
Decide who is going to loosen up their funds and how it is responsibly and fairly going to be disbursed back into the system.
Demand that jobs come back to the United States and that tariffs be placed on the imports that come in to the United States.
No need to start an angry blog with a bunch of trolls about this stuff. It's the United States and I'm stating my views as to what I believe would benefit this country and its people.

Knowledge is key. I think it would be greatly advantageous to get some kind of "History Project" element established in Occupy Wall Street that offers a sort of accessible but critical historical analysis of the development of capitalism and the subsequent erosion of democratic controls, along with ideological theories like (neo)Liberalism. Concentrate on the most recent period (ie intensification of globalization process) to show how the omnipresent power and hyper-mobility of capital have have had serious deleterious effects on the basic everyday social relations and survival strategies of the poor and the indebted. Furthermore this is not simply an "American" problem but a GLOBAL problem. The 99% is all over the world - perhaps try to emphasize this point.
A "History Project" element of these protests could happen in the same way that you guys "became your own media". Get the knowledge out on Twitter and Facebook so that the kind of important historical knowledge that is currently "trapped" in academic journals, can be excavated and made public. Critical thinking is what is most dangerous to established exploitative social systems. Get the word out and make it understandable.
