A Million Man March on Wall Street
Revolutions are not unplanned and leaderless events. Nor do they happen like ‘spontaneous combustion.’ The mass protests that have erupted in Cairo's Midan Tahrir square, and are close to toppling Mubarak's regime, were orchestrated by a handful of Internet savvy organizers known as the April 6 Youth Movement. For two years they planned, strategized, thought things through. Their first act surprised even themselves: in the wake of Tunisia, they called for a day of protest and 90,000 supporters showed up. It was this initial mass, backed by popular enthusiasm, that then propelled the uprising.
To this was added tactical education. A pamphlet entitled "How to Rise Up" was circulated in the days running up to the Friday protests on January 28. The pamphlet, which has been partially translated by The Atlantic, covers everything from what to wear, what march route to take and how to fight back against the riot police.
Could an uprising like this happen in America? Over 25 million folks are now unemployed, 2.8 million homes are in foreclosure while the investment bankers who brought this economic misery cynically reap obscene bonuses and rewards. Blatant corruption rules at the heart of American democracy. And with corporations now treated as people, big business money dictates who is elected to Congress and what laws they shall pass. America has devolved into a corporate state ruled by and for the megacorps.
What would it take for the people of America to suddenly rise up and say "Enough!"? A double dip recession? A crash on Wall St.? A war in the Middle East?
If we want to spark a popular uprising in the West – like a million man march on Wall Street – then let's get organized, let's strategize, let's think things through.

I hope as much as anyone else in America that we will be able to suddenly overthrow consumerism and the corporate powers which ("who" according to our government) shove it down our throats, but in the interim, blame yourself. Until you can honestly claim that you do not contribute to big business in America, blame yourself. If you work for a company which exists by making people believe that they need something that they don't, blame yourself. Change has to start from the bottom up... it is more challenging this way because the enemies live with us. Obsessive consumers are the enemy, as are marketers, advertisers, soldiers, dishonest lawyers... Everyone likes to blame a president for starting an unpopular war, but every participating soldier is also to blame. You will know some of these people. Standing up to your government takes courage, but telling your family/ friends... that they are part of the problem requires real commitment (and tact of course).

indeed we all need to create change but the masters WANT us to blame ourselves for our own colonization-colonization does what it does so well precisely because it does give so many so little choice.
it is easy to say blame yourself, don't shop etc but when the entire structure is designed to not allow other lifeways, it is not easy to break out of. Not that we shouldnt try, and shouldnt do everything we can do-but BLAMING ourselves just makes us feel worse for things that are often out of our hands. Check out Transition USA for some ways to opt out of the structure. Look into permaculture, slow food, slow money, read derrick jensen and daniel quinn and do whatever you can do *right now* but don't play the colonizers psy-op games.
Why do you think they force children to be soldiers and kill others like themselves? its all a mind game to keep us blaming ourselves and paralyzed. blame is useless ACTION is important!

Anonymous @12:46 a.m. and FRITZ: too true. Our "Governments" provide less and less "government" and are currently transitioning to a corporate caretaker role. More and more of what used to be considered the responsibility of our "democratically elected leaders", is being privatised and reconfigured to turn a profit PRIMARILY, rather than being configured to tend to the needs of human society. The ballot box is an amusing antiquity. Your vote is your dollar now. Spend wisely and mind out for all the bullshit. Most media tells you what it tells you because it's PAID TO BY SOMEONE AND IT MAY NOT BE IMMEDIATELY CLEAR WHO THAT IS.
