Battle for the Soul of Occupy
Alright you jammers, occupiers and Springtime dreamers,
First they silenced our uprising with a media blackout… then they smashed our encampments with midnight paramilitary raids… and now they’re threatening to neutralize our insurgency with an insidious campaign of donor money and co-optation. This counter-strategy worked to kill off the Tea Party’s outrage and turn it into a puppet of the Republican Party. Will the same happen with Occupy Wall Street? Will our insurgency turn into the Democrats’ Tea Party pet?
It’s up to you to decide if our movement goes the way of Paris ’68, the dust bin of could-have-been-insurrections, or something more daring, more inspiring, something not yet dreamed.
Will you allow Occupy to become a project of the old left, the same cabal of old world thinkers who have blunted the possibility of revolution for decades? Will you allow MoveOn, The Nation and Ben & Jerry to put the brakes on our Spring Offensive and turn our struggle into a “99% Spring” reelection campaign for President Obama?
We are now in a battle for the soul of Occupy… a fight to the finish between the impotent old left and the new vibrant, horizontal left who launched Occupy Wall Street from the bottom-up and who dreams of real democracy and another world.
Whatever you do, don’t allow our revolutionary struggle to fizzle out into another lefty whine and clicktivist campaign like has happened so many times in the past. Let’s Occupy the clicktivists and crash the MoveOn party. Let’s #DEFENDOCCUPY and stop the derailment of our movement that looms ahead.
for the wild,

OWS need to create a correlary to the Declaration that formally kicks out the anarchist who want to overthrow the U.S. government. Otherwise, enjoy your ash bin of history.

OWS was created by anarchists you fool. It's okay for Arab nations to overthrow their governments but if the citizens of the most corrupt country in the world it is suddenly denounced? You can't defeat capitalism with reform, the wealthiest will still have absolute power.

So there is a great struggle for "The Soul of Occupy," and the anarchists strangely think it was all about them all along.
Take your seat at the table along with everyone else. The table ain't yours, never has been, and never will be.

Battle for the Soul of Occupy
Jump, jump, jump over the dead body of the old left! ///// You must be whistling past the grave yard. Yes we are dead. We are ghosts. We're invisible. But you fear us. Why do you fear ghosts ?
Lenin
The old left is dead. We r ghosts ! Boo ! why do you fear us dead communists ? Giggles .There's a Spectre haunting the Soul of Occupy A spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Tsar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies.

What's missing from this discussion is diversity of tactics, with regards to this diversity of tactics.
The 99% Spring is not just an attempt to co-opt OCCUPY. It's a fait accomplis.
Some occupiers may see this as a victory, now OCCUPY issues are going mainstream. But the issues have always been mainstream, just repeatedly pushed aside by the press and sitting members of Congress.
The 99%Spring has hijacked OCCUPY language, are using OCCUPY tactics, and possibly aim to have bodies out in the street, to push forward leftist issues in tandem with Democratic party campaign. At first this seems great, but in reality, the pushing for leftist issues is worthless because the Democratic party have no intention of following through. It's just the best way to get your base back on board before election time.
Obviously, nothing is proprietary in any political movement, but when you see the masters of propaganda, using your language, tactics and publicity, to achieve their own aims, you must also assume they intend to thwart or divert your movement, take the spotlight off your movement, and hijack it for their own gain. Being aware of that is not paranoia. It's just being aware of the inevitable.
Since we know the 99%Spring aren't going to protest NATO, G8 or push for a general strike, it's not outrageous to assume they're ultimately working towards getting Democrats elected and reelected, even if that's not immediately apparent in their trainings and current campaign. Several different people have related several different stories, and apparently there's been varied experiences, some positive, some negative. However, we only have to look at how moveon runs campaigns in tandem with the Obama administration to see where this is ultimately headed, after the Spring.
Obama used the 99% language in his last SOTU address without referencing OWS, and he's been using it heavily in the last week to promote the Buffet rule (aka the 1% tax, aka the millionaires tax) that failed a Senate vote yesterday - http://money.cnn.com/2012/04/16/smallbusiness/buffett/?npt=NP1, while moveon have tax day protests arranged for today: http://civic.moveon.org/event/events/index.html?rc=homepage.sidebar&action_id=272
The real issue now is how Occupiers choose to handle the co-option. Occupiers should do whatever they feel, suits them.
Here's some suggestions:
* Occupiers can take part in the 99% Spring and co-occ everyone they meet, network and take contact details. Form a database. Take note of the methods that these other groups use, and co-opt their methods when useful. Moveon members don't generally know each other, socialize with each other or form groups outside of moveon. Occupiers could change some of that at these events, and co-occ. Occupiers could try to get Occupy events or actions publicized through the 99%Spring network.
* Be part of the 99% Spring as long as it's convenient and productive for Occupiers or until the interests start separating and become more apparent.
* Combat the 99% Spring by reaching out to the progressive press in a coordinated media blitz for the purpose of publicizing upcoming Occupy events, thus taking the spotlight away from the 99%Spring.
* Ignore the 99% Spring, continue on with whatever you were doing before you heard of the 99% Spring.
Please add to these options.

Yes, yes, diversity of tactics is good, as long as they are your tactics.
But ultimately you are right. Go there, participate. But don't go there thinking that you are in enemy territory because you are not. These people are you allies. Just because they think electing Obama, or Ron Paul, or some other joker to be president is a good way forward doesn't mean they are dumb, or trying to co-opt you.
Embrace the FACT that you are probably just as ignorant as the rest of us and be open to learn and grow from other people.
I'm disgusted with this notion of in fighting. When it's black bloc tactics everyone is talking about respect then when it's "old left" tactics all of the sudden it's a different story.

I note this morning (Tuesday) there's a complaint by Danny Schechter about this Adbusters article over at CommonDreams. Unsurprisingly, there is no provision for comments after this piece. Poor Danny...he seems to want it both ways: we are oh-so-radical, but you know, it's "sectarian" what naughty Adbusters did. He even through in a passing connection with Mao.
He also mentioned the pathetic Tom Hayden, who in the twilight of his life has managed to discover sell-out. The sometime radical has, like too many others, discovered the pleasures of the status quo. Port Huron Tom is now Obama Fan Tom. Maybe we should just call him "Uncle Tom."

I see the comments section. Perhaps your missing it is part of a larger vision problem.

You all do realize that any movement that succeeds will need MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of people, right? And here you are wanting to reject "the old left" and remain small? WTF??? Where did your brains go?
