Battle for the Soul of Occupy

Jump, jump, jump over the dead body of the old left!

Alright you jammers, occupiers and Springtime dreamers,

First they silenced our uprising with a media blackout… then they smashed our encampments with midnight paramilitary raids… and now they’re threatening to neutralize our insurgency with an insidious campaign of donor money and co-optation. This counter-strategy worked to kill off the Tea Party’s outrage and turn it into a puppet of the Republican Party. Will the same happen with Occupy Wall Street? Will our insurgency turn into the Democrats’ Tea Party pet?

It’s up to you to decide if our movement goes the way of Paris ’68, the dust bin of could-have-been-insurrections, or something more daring, more inspiring, something not yet dreamed.

Will you allow Occupy to become a project of the old left, the same cabal of old world thinkers who have blunted the possibility of revolution for decades? Will you allow MoveOn, The Nation and Ben & Jerry to put the brakes on our Spring Offensive and turn our struggle into a “99% Spring” reelection campaign for President Obama?

We are now in a battle for the soul of Occupy… a fight to the finish between the impotent old left and the new vibrant, horizontal left who launched Occupy Wall Street from the bottom-up and who dreams of real democracy and another world.

Whatever you do, don’t allow our revolutionary struggle to fizzle out into another lefty whine and clicktivist campaign like has happened so many times in the past. Let’s Occupy the clicktivists and crash the MoveOn party. Let’s #DEFENDOCCUPY and stop the derailment of our movement that looms ahead.

for the wild,

Bravo! We are on the same side. More so than you realize. And I agree wholeheartedly. What we need now, is some options, strategies and a new diversity of tactics specifically formulated, for co-opting the co-option.

That's what's missing from this discussion.

Peace.

"clicktivist"? Not every ome can walk around you know. Comrades do what comrades can do. Get your shit together comrades. It is the US that is the evil Empire. It is wall st that is the beast. We at the margins, the colonised and subjugated need to see you are taking it on. Fuck democracy, it is a product of capitalism. We are form a new democracy that is people centred. World wide. Democrats are neoliberal stoolies. Ignore them and ignore their mechanisms.

Turns out the old left media is turning on us altogether. Check out what Mother Jones published - "How Occupy Co-Opted MoveOn". What is this, a movement pissmatch? How sad. We should rename the entire thing and keep them chasing after our ideas like chickens without brains. I used to think highly of this publication.

If Occupy doesn't bring the multitudes forward it is just another splinter-left faction.
The multitudes are not in the street, ergo Occupy must go to them--in as many ways as possible, including politics. Big Capital controls the Presidency and the Senate, but local, state and U.S. House Rep seats can be contested. It is naive to dis politics. even in a two-headed-one-Party system run by Chimeras. The T-Party jammed the system two years ago by electing 70 U.S. Reps. Think what Occupiers could do by taking a 100 or 150 seats. You want a single-payer health-care system? The SC is going to kill Obamacare. That will open the door. You want free tuition to colleges and universities? Publically-owned utilities? Conversion to light Rail? An end to the XL pipeline? Home solar systems subsidized by money that now goes to Big Oil, Gas & Coal? A down-sized military? Re-reg up the yin-yang that will force every failed capitalist corp to firesale its assets to worker and consumer-owned non-profits financed by credit unions and state-owned banks? We can exit this parasitic, chimera-run globall junky imperialist system if Occupy doesn't factionalize but, as JJ says, keeps its eye on the prize, which is ultimately to shrink Wall Street into insignificance.

As someone who works in the Democratic Party, I can tell you most of us want nothing to do with Occupy. This at first beautiful movement to make the mainstream person pay attention to whats really happening in the world was something we wanted to be a part of. Not necessarily "co-opt" but use its power to make our party more progressive and wash out the blue dog conservatives. You fools have gone so far to the extreme and doing things that the majority of Americans are scratching their heads over that previous political figures like Alan Grayson who supported your movement are distancing themselves as fast as they can. Instead of worrying about the Democrats co-opting you maybe you guys should worry about making yourselves worthy to be co-opted.
