The Future of #OCCUPY

The initial phase of the #OCCUPY movement was marked by several weeks of viral growth that peaked on October 15 with a global day of action. In the next phase, there will be a turn towards addressing the deep philosophical and strategic questions of how to escalate this democracy moment into a revolutionary people's movement. Across the nation there are clear signs that the #OCCUPY movement is simultaneously maturing and growing more militant.
Of the many questions swirling around #OCCUPY, the most challenging is how to gel into a global movement without sacrificing the decentralized, leaderless model. There is a widespread acknowledgment that there are challenges that can only be dealt with on a global scale, such as a climate change accord and overturning international casino capitalism, and that we must therefore forge a globally united people's movement. However, there is also a growing recognition that the general assembly model that has worked beautifully thus far may be fundamentally limited on a structural level.
A breakthrough came on Friday from the New York City General Assembly where the structure working group has proposed, and the general assembly has accepted, the adoption of a modified spokes council model that will work in conjunction with the general assembly. This lays the foundation for a regional, national and potentially international spokes council, something that both #OCCUPYPHILLY and The 99 Percent Declaration have been pushing for. We are beginning to see how the #OCCUPY movement will elevate itself into an international force.
Meanwhile, the power center of the movement is shifting away from the East Coast towards the West. On Wednesday, #OCCUPYOAKLAND is organizing a General Strike that is already finding support within the local community. Solidarity actions are planned in occupations nationwide. Within the movement, there is a sense that this may be a turning point as militant tactics come to the fore and direct confrontation with the structures of the corporate-state becomes the norm.
Other sparks on the horizon include the November 5 Transition Day/Bank Transfer Day, the November 25 Buy Nothing Day kick off to #OCCUPYXMAS and the December 10 Global Day of Action which was proposed this week by the international network behind the blast on October 15.

I very much look forward to the next step, for OCCUPY. The occupying and camping turned out better than I could have ever imagined, however, it might be time to move to stage 2, 3, etc. Occupying is so easily being broken up at many cities and weakened by weather in others. What comes next?

I'm all for Occupy. I think it's rad. I'm a part of it.
But honestly, I'm a little nervous about transfer day. The corporations we want held accountable at least provide structure...if they were actually hurt significantly by National Transfer Day, things could get worse than they are now.
I don't know enough about economics or financial structure to say what the repercussions of some of the tactics are...I just hope that there are rational, intelligent people who speak up about potential consequences...
Also, who keeps scheduling the marches at noon on a Monday? We're upset that people can't get jobs...But those of us who have full-time jobs can't lose them for the cause? That's counter-productive, wouldn't you say?

"OWS makes no demands, but has a clear goal. Here's something to remember: If you mess with the *real* 99%, who still believe in America, you're messing with the wrong folks. Why? Well, while you're busy wiggling your fingers, we're filling our time loading ammunition and cleaning our guns.
Let me be clear: I am making a threat against anyone or anything. I am only stating a plain, hard fact. Real Americans, who love their country and believe that even a Socialist in the White House can't kill the American Dream, people who want want what's best for themselves and their children, will *not* simply stand by, while a bunch of useful idiots do the bidding of some shadow group whose goal is the erradication of our way of life.
Stupid is as stupid does. All the drum banging and finger wiggling in the world isn't going to change anything.
And, please consider the following: While the OWS crowd is busy getting high and having a good ole time inconveniencing other people who just want to live their lives, there are an awful lot of us who them for the morons they are. Oh, and we also the very real danger of the people behind them.
Being a useful idiot is one thing. Don't be a useful victim.
The Arab Spring worked because those folks were willing to arm themselves and die for their cause. Are you?
To those of us who see the real danger this group represents, we are ready, willing, and able to do whatever it takes to defend the country and the way of life we love. And, yes, I mean with violence. Extreme, unmitigated, merciless violence.
The Second Amendment is a wonderful thing. It was put in place so that the American people could defend their nation against insurgents, invasion, and any other threat facing our country.
If you want to succeed, learn the lessons that the hippies learned 50 years ago: The only real change comes from the inside. When you put down the joint and put on a tie, *then* you can effect real change. Sleeping in park like a homeless person, while you Skype on your iPad and text on your iPhone, just makes you like the idiot you obviously are.
So, to summarize: You've got drums. We've got guns. How do you think that's going to work out for you, if the poop really hits the fan?
