Facebook's Final #ZUCKUP
Ever since Facebook became an indispensable aspect of our lives, there has been a growing sense of foreboding that something is not quite right, a premonition that eventually we would need to make a total break with the site. In recent weeks, however, the importance of the social network for fomenting insurrections abroad has led many of us to conclude that Facebook was on the verge of transcending its narrow commercial concerns, that it was on the brink of elevating itself into a neutral platform for social revolution. Yesterday, our hopes were finally dashed.
On March 29, Facebook callously deleted the organizing page for the Third Intifada, a call for a Palestinian popular uprising to shake off Israel's brutal occupation that had over 200,000 supporters. The Third Intifada's Twitter and Google-owned YouTube pages still exist. Facebook's act of suppression is an unforgivable #ZUCKUP, may it be the last.
The first major #ZUCKUP was the commercialization of friendship. The second disturbing #ZUCKUP was the remorseless pursuit of privacy-invasive technologies. The third #ZUCKUP, the one that will be remembered as the final nail in Facebook's coffin, is the cynical attempt to stand in the way of history by blocking the people's worldwide movement toward self-governance and democracy.
Let us now kill Facebook with this #ZUCKUP campaign. Pull your allegiance, delete your account and watch for the day that Facebook implodes spectacularly.
In committing communal Facebook suicide, we will open up the possibility of new activist innovations, improved social apps for revolt, fresh perspectives on how to turn online passion into real world action.

Hey Anons, for some of you, your hypocrisy on fb is amazing. Get some courage. #Zuckup and fb is a CIA shill if you care to notice. Opmetalgear was blabbing about it themselves. Yes, his last #ZUCKUP. It is up to you and me. I see no problem, unless you want to cede your values to #ZUCKUP and continue using his service. When the rubber meets the road where do you stand Anons? I thinks its in the interest off all who care about free speech and privacy to leave fb permanently. I will live by these values and boycott fb, will you live to your values?

Nonga Nonga Non...
All censorship is bad. People should be allowed to say things. It's up to the reader of things to be responsible enough to discern whether to jump on board or not.
I totally shared this story on my FB page by the way.

Just an idea:
0) facebook pages can't be deleted. unless you delete every single piece of information and then attempt to not hack into that cyberspace place where you can actually find everything you've ever done
that said.......
1) curate your friends list i.e. selectively choose who you accept friend requests from and who you send them to; spend time being self reflective about the definition of 'friend' -- less than 5 percent of the people you'll ever meet deserve such an honour.
2) the issue, i've realised is not facebook unto itself (despite its problems), but the masturbatory dick wagging of "look how vapid my life is but i want you to be jealous of it" mentality. the people who use it for those purposes don't read adbusters.
3) create a facebook protest to restore the page
4) if 1, 2, and 3 don't work ... delete, delete, delete

Haha wow, I don't think that the readership of AdBusters makes up a significant portion of Facebook's userbase. You can stop using Facebook, but that's not somehow going to bring the website to its knees.
