A Blow Against an Icon of Capitalism

Wouldn't that be lovely?

A hint of a stunning global jam against capitalism came last month when Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez urged his citizens to boycott Coca-Cola and drink local fruit juice instead. Bolivia’s Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca then chipped in saying his nation might kick Coca-Cola out the country to celebrate the start of the new Mayan calendar cycle on December 21:

“The twenty-first of December 2012 is the end of selfishness, of division. The twenty-first of December has to be the end of Coca-Cola and the beginning of mocochinche (a local peach-flavored soft drink).”

Choquehuanca’s comments have triggered a storm of rebuttals and rumors fueling the tantalizing possibility of huge numbers of people all over world suddenly going local with their drinking habits.

Hmmm … could this meme gather momentum over the next few months and culminate in a joyous #NOCOKEDAY global boycott of capitalism’s most iconic brand?

Wouldn’t that be lovely?

Water is Sacred and soft drinks and soft drink companies have made themselves the enemy of water and health. Anything that grows as big as Coca Cola has outgrown its usefulness and its welcome. We need to establish that things that grow so big as to dwarf people, or their economies, or the environment's ability to support it, has grown into a dinosaur that needs to be done away with. CocaCola has done all three.

I like disabling Coke machines as my own personal Meme War. Its so easy to do. Tools needed: cup, straw, salt, water. I take a cup and a straw, fill it with water, and mix a whole bunch of table salt in. Mix it up real good, suck a bunch into your mouth, then insert the straw into the bill changer, and spit all the salty water into the money slot. If you wait around for about five minutes you'll get to witness the death pangs begin. The salt starts to eat away at the sensitive money reader, and the whole machine becomes useless. It won't accept bills anymore until that bill changer is replaced. My favorite is to go back and hit one in the same location a second time, after a bunch of money was spent on fixing the mess I made of the previous one :)

It's very ironic that there are so few comments on this short article. Too many people out there still drink coke, or could never see themselves actually stopping drinking coke. Too many people who discredit the evolution of consciousness that we are all going through. In my opinion at least.
I quit drinking coke 30 years ago.

Willful destruction of property simply wrong! Better to advocate healthy living styles that do not include the high sugar, high salt levels found in all soda pops?
