Anonymous Joins #OCCUPYWALLSTREET

Jammers, dreamers, patriots,
Anonymous has just released a video communique endorsing #OCCUPYWALLSTREET. Using language from our first Tactical Briefing, the video calls on protesters to adopt the nonviolent Tahrir-acampadas model. On the 17th of September, it says, "flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months … Once there, we shall incessantly repeat one simple demand in a plurality of voices."
See also signs of support for S17 on Anonymous's Twitter and websites.
Meanwhile S17 is surging ahead internationally. Simultaneous occupations of financial districts are now being planned in New York City, Madrid, Milan, London, Paris and San Francisco. With a bit of luck, this list of participating cities will expand.
If we can pull together just the right mix of nonviolence, tenacity and strategic smarts, S17 could be the beginning of the global revolution we've all been dreaming about for so long … wouldn't that be lovely.
for the wild,

Amen. Finally some back up. This is kind of what I've been trying to get at. Thank you.
What gets me is that I have read Adbusters for years and I am always impressed with the design, art, writing and often times the understanding of world economics, foreign policy and social issues. What I am not impressed with is this campaign and the seemingly slim amount of thought that was put into it. Actually the blog posts on this site in general are rather week compared to the complicated nature of the magazine. This site does not seem to reflect the magazine in its full maturity at all. It is as if Kalle Lasn does not edit this site, just the magazine. I can imagine he's busy but jeez Kalle, this site is a reflection of your creation. Take pride in it. Also Kalle why does a magazine published in Vancouver care so much about America? You most likely have more "freedom" in Vancover, BC than we could ever think of in the U.S. Universal healthcare anyone? I'm in. Are you hiring?
I'm with you on the 2.5 kids. I have everything the American dream has promised me. A house. A wife and kids. Apple pie. A great job even. And I'm an artist? A poet even? AND i have struggled. I am a brain cancer survivor as well and a disable veteran. With that said, when I see the rebels in Libya fighting against the true tyranny of a ruthless dictator (once supported by America) and the Egyptians topple another ruthless dictator (once supported by America) I can't find it but funny to think of American citizens putting up tents on Wall Street as they will most likely walk around the corner to get a four dollar coffee or an organic muffin.
I say if you are going to do it, do it Burning Man style. All you take, is all you take out. Leave no trace. Don't use any facilities. Take all your water, food and fecal matter in and out with you. Be real about it. If all those tripping hippies can do it in the desert, the Anonymous and Adbusters crew can do it on Wall Street. If not, all you will be doing is adding tens of thousands of dollars (of which you don't believe in) to the local economy of which you are protesting.
If this movement had any real fuel behind it I would see/think it would be more specific. What you have is too much freedom and you don't even realize it. You protest for freedom in the state/city that same sex marriage was finally passed just weeks ago.
Don't ask don't tell has been overturned.
My little girls can go to school and I don't have to worry about their clitoris' getting cut off beforehand.
I pay my taxes and my bills and keep a great credit score but still I am broke. Am I pissed at the American political system? Yes. It's a joke. Is the so called "freedom" you think we don't have a joke, NO.
And as I don't believe anyone who doesn't agree should go to Tehran, I would suggest thinking your so called movement through more. Maybe even ask for some guidance from some of the many thousands of contributors Adbusters has had over the past twenty two years of its publication.
This is my AMERICA. Disappointing I know, but if America lives on, I plan on making it better.

Byron, just out of curiosity, what is one thing you would change about America?

The one thing. Great question because there are so many. I would like to see anyone elected to Congress serve one term only. I think if we could start there it would begin to get all the money out of the mix and then politicians would quit worrying about being re-elected and start looking out for the citizens not themselves.
I also believe this is something that is not partisan and that I can see many citizens fighting for on both sides of the isle and independents, etc.
How about you?

Regarding Clarity
I think its worth saying that the goals of #OCCUPYWALLSTREET do need to be more clearly defined. Perhaps, demanding legislation repealing the citizens united ruling. Or various other demands of that nature. Perhaps transparency regarding how much, and from whom, candidates receive funds. Perhaps an end to the Patriot (Orwellian) act.
I think if we made our goals concrete, we would be much more likely to have success. For example, the egyptian protesters goal was clear; the removal of Mubarak.
I really love this idea, and I love that there are so many supporters. I love that we have proverbial air support from Anonymous. What I don't love is the wandering, quixotic objectives that have thus been expressed.
I think Adbusters next step should be to have some sort of dialogue with supporters, and find out, specifically, what we want.
Just my two cents. Have a lovely day.
