Ha. Good Luck Guys, there are
Ha. Good Luck Guys, there are 500 million Facebook users in the world, and about 30 comments here.... there are more people online now on my FB then there are comments on this page. Good Luck You'll need it.
(45 people online now)- I have 205 friends
Is facebook your tool, or are
Is facebook your tool, or are you facebook's tool?
Facebook uses the content that you so conveniently upload in a digital format to create a market profile to sell to corporations to keep it's servers running. Facebook needs you - it wants you to pack its servers with bits. The only people who gain from facebook are the corporations, for which it is a goldmine.
Machines do not need to enslave us - we are voluntarily joining their matrix.
There is a hidden benefit
There is a hidden benefit that businesses get as well, not much talked about. Employee evaluations - big corporations regularly scan facebook to see if any of their employees are posting anything that might be negative or derogatory about them.
'The wise man does not speak
'The wise man does not speak before he is sure he can transform his words into action.'
I have noticed that since facebook was popularized people are much more measured in their self expression, as well people seem to just talk about 'people', and a little bit about 'events' and the people gathered tehre. But if someone talks about 'ideas'; from what I have seen, people seem to have a reactionary attitude, almost like Facebook is not the forum to talk about environmental devastation and American foreign wars, those things are downers, as though its a distraction for them from seeing that their friends own dogs and watch the hockey game. These things are all well and good, but when we start adopting to this framework where we are afraid to express ideas greater than ourselves and that which is obvious we are losing something, and it spreads from facebook to real life with ease, shallow perceptions and fast judgements, dulled perceptions. it radiates all around us. You can see it in the way people talk, in how people hold their bodies, holding tight to the illusions of self they have created. Psychic innundation with innanity will render us stupid.
Maybe its just me, or maybe its the star weather, with saturnian libra types wanting everyone to adhere to outmoded invisible social laws that benefit the prevailing structures and attitudes of the babylon system, to the detriment of creative ideation and artful expression. Im not saying I sit on facebook and curse people out, but I express and use images to cast a further symbolism by pushing the way we are supposed to use the site to its maximum. I wont give specifics but people react, some have attitude like 'you think you are better than us' but really Im just being honest with what I think, if we cannot express this way then we are doomed to zombification and ignorance. Take a chance Instead of just portraying an image of self and staking security there, afraid of what others may think. Not allowing a webpage to limit the potential of true human understanding is probably necessary if we want to grow.
After some experiments with metaphors and images, rants and re-structurings, artistic exhibitions and temporal personas, I found that a few others started to do similar things on their profiles, or at least were more likely to open up and express their true feelings and opinions on things other than the safety zone of collective digital social norms. I think this is important because people confuse their flesh selves with the mental abstractions of a webpage. At first people will think that is not keeping with the rules of how the profile is supposed to work. But I am always reminded of the image of Mark Zuckerburg getting presented the award of merit or some suchen from the CIA. And sometimes I wonder if 2012 will be allot more like 1984. Fear of what others might think in the forebrain, creative abstraction is disallowed, individual expression is seen as rude or discordant. But as time goes on ,this website that is only 7 years old, seems to be having a dramatic ability to alter the way we act and perceive in the real world. Obviously some type of replacement that isn't an Identification system, that is a free flowing non-linear format which reflects a true living mind is needed. Be damned with the static dead data base of factoids and single lines of type devoid of any deeper meaning.
So I am calling on all those evolvers who want to evolve; Let it be known that there is something behind the face, and you will give invisible permission to others to do the same. If people are like 'whoa you did this' you know its working. No-self in the world of appearances might bother some at first, but when they search their owns minds they know. Be strong, people might criticize and make their judgments in vain; but the spirit looms larger than they care to know. Tie them up in knots of confusion if they come with blame and libel, cut the knot to disallow attachment and stagnation (use the remove button when the time comes, and begin stage-crafting the next expressive spectacle). People who are attached to the images of self and orthodox use of the site wont be pressing the like button. In time the norms will change to reflect the minds of true living people; not a databank of factoids and images for commercial and government interest, working detrimentally against our true nature.
'Fear ebbs away and a smile appears. The discussion is continued in a cheerful atmosphere, and the right course becomes apparent.'

Hey righteous people of
Hey righteous people of adbusters, stop bashing people in the comments like some teenager on youtube and think for a second. I agree that technology is taking over and people can't help but consume for consumptions sake but backing out will leave you endangered like the remaining indigenous peoples of the world. We are merely in a transition point where technology needs to progress to a seamless integration with our lives so we don't need to waste time roaming the matrix. I wish to free the information from these boxes to free ourselves. Blame capitalism for everything else...
P.S. I've been facebook free for 6 months and I feel fine.
> We are merely in a
> We are merely in a transition point where technology needs to progress to a seamless integration with our lives so we don't need to waste time roaming the matrix
I respectfully disagree. Technology itself is fine but in general is mixed up with some product pushed by some corporation. That corporation's goal is nothing short of getting you to consume as much as possible for as long as possible and to make as much peripheral income off of whatever information they gather from you via the consumption of said product.
There's too much to discuss ... and this is too hard to whittle down to one specific topic to really have a constructive conversation but you know what I mean.
It's great that you're facebook free. By nature, so am I. Unfortunately, I have to get on that stupid network in order to schedule calendars with certain people.
It's annoying. I don't think it's going to change until something really bad happens to wake people up and get them to disconnect as the general crowd here is preemptively doing.
So yeah, it sucks that people are bashing others, on that I agree. But this isn't a "transition period." The dot com boom was ten years ago. Things are getting worse and more invasive.
Peace be with you, brother.
I've been facebook free and
I've been facebook free and cellphone free for about two weeks now, and I'm probably going to continue that indefinitely. Life is so much more rewarding and relaxing without being plugged in.
Wait does it start the 18th
Wait does it start the 18th or the 25th?
It starts on the 18th, sorry
It starts on the 18th, sorry for the confusion!
Challenge accepted. I've got
Challenge accepted.
I've got some books I've been trying to get round to reading for a while, people I haven't seen in ages (though contacting them will be tough) and projects to get round to completing.

Question: When did we all get
Question: When did we all get so hooked up to our electronics? Don't we remember the days that we all spent a few minutes chillin' in front of the TV and hours upon hours outside... boy we suck.
We do suck. Think about it.
We do suck. Think about it. These electronic gadgets and social media are not the tools. We are the tools.
It won't solve the problem of
It won't solve the problem of being controlled by the accelerated pace of post modern life. It will just postpone it, for a week or two, and then the conditioning of the 21st century will take over again.
I dare YOU, to only go to sites that have no advertising, or if they do have advertising IGNORE and look away from the content. To quit Tweeting and Facebooking ( just to believe that you are really communicating with others, but really are just giving "sound bites" of your life away. ) Never read the celebrity gossip, and just use the computer, cell phone as a tools when needed. Get news, information that is pertinent to the world, or read essays and articles that are useful. Don't use the computer as an escape from living your life and smelling the roses.
( I guess that means the week of April 25th adbusters will take a week off from chipping away at the brainwashing and conditioning of a capitalist world gone berserk! What a shame.)
Yes, I have a genital shock
Yes, I have a genital shock apparatus hooked up to me at all times that blasts me every time I look at a social networking site or check my email too often. I find it helps.
One telling sign of the rot
One telling sign of the rot in the Western world is the lack of children in this video. Too many Westerners settle for an ersatz canine "child". This is actually a call to re-examine many aspects of our self-destructive lifestyle.
And why should they seek to
And why should they seek to have children's in an overpopulated world?
That part of our nature its really important but we are enough already to expect that everyone wants or needs to procreate.
Having my cell phone with me
Having my cell phone with me and checking those email accounts can mean the difference between working (doing the thing I love) or not tomorrow.
I'm not seeing the
I'm not seeing the relationship between the video and the idea of eschewing electronic devices. How would refusing to use electronic devices solve the protagonist's problem of excessive working hours?
This is a good idea, but the video's a bit of a non sequitur.
Agreed. The impression is one
Agreed. The impression is one of our pressures of life that take away from from life. Paradox, no. The same thing in different perspectives, yes.
In part of Holland, Helsinki I do know of for sure has a four day work week standard. Studies show that they are one of the most productive per capita (average per person) than the US, Canada, or Australia.
Helsinki, Holland?
Helsinki, Holland? LMAO!!!
Stop spreading urban myths.
And for your info: Helsinki is a city, the capital of Finland.
Holland is a country.
Now go to your cubicle and be productive.
Funny, he probably saw that
Funny, he probably saw that in a pseudo-documentary. I don't know about Helsinki or even Finland all-together, but I've been working in Amsterdam, Holland and 8hour-working day is clearly the standard...
However the 4hour myth is easy to implement: start you own business and set your own rules! That's the starting point to conquer your life back.
pretty sure that said four
pretty sure that said four day work week not four hour anything... which my husband who works in construction in Canada was telling me they were talking about implementing here so whether accurate or not it's true
I'm from Holland and they
I'm from Holland and they definitely have a 5 day work week 8 hours a day
