#NOSTARBUCKS
Vow never to walk into a Starbucks ever again. Instead, search out the most interesting indie coffee shop around where you live and work … get to know the people who own and run the place and get your friends and co-workers to join you there. Individually this may feel like a drop in the bucket, but if all of us do it collectively, then we can begin to shift power from megacorporations to our friends and neighbors.
Tweet #NOSTARBUCKS, Facebook it, email it, whisper it to a friend or shout it from the rooftops. Spread the word and let’s start brewing the mood for a worldwide revolution.

I don’t support Starbucks personally, because I make my own drinks at home. However, if I need a mid day fix away from home, I choose to support local coffee houses; simply because I am a champion of small business. Adbusters is making a point to support small business because it promotes diversity. During these economically tough times, it is important to support local business. Small businesses are more negativity affected by the lack of spending of their local economies. If we don’t support our local businesses, then all we’ll have is a series of corporations to choose from in our own neighborhoods. Large corporate firms, such as Starbucks, are capable of buying their products in larger volumes; in turn, they are able to offer their products much cheaper than small businesses that only buy their products for one store. Starbucks is an efficient business. And some people truly do enjoy their drinks. But during this economic recession, it is more important than ever to support small business in order to preserve diversity in our local communities. If you don’t have a preference for Starbucks drinks, then buy local instead. I believe the point Adbusters is trying to make with this campaign, is that we, as educated individuals, we should be conscious of where we spend our limited resources, and that perhaps we should spend our resources in our own communities. There are several other reasons why we should spend our money inside our own communities. In fact, there are more than I have time to discuss on this forum, but it is both beneficial to support small business for the prosperity of our own community, and promote diversity in our immediate areas.

Former employee...
I don't understand why we should boycott Starbucks.
Because it is a corporation? The corner coffee shop is probably incorporated too.
Because it is giant? Its size allows Starbucks to create demand for fair trade, shade grown, and organic coffees.
Because its workers aren't unionized? The corner coffee shop isn't likely unionized.
Because it favors capital over labor? Unless your local coffee shop is a worker collective, then it too favors the capital of the owner(s), his/her investors, and his/her bank.
Please, please, please: ask "Why?"
If you find a problem, bring it up; whether to your coffee shop or your network of culture jammers.
